And for what it's worth, this woman he's talking with seems just as idiotic, pretty much just asking him to confirm her delusions -- which he obligingly does.
Kent, while vile and contemptuous, isn't guilty here. The woman wanted to forgo medical aid, and went to someone who would validate it. He could have voiced otherwise, but she is the one guilty of anything.
this man is a SHIT POT. yea, sure, you can live six to ten years with cancer, during which time the cancer is metastasizing and spreading into other organs. breast cancer especially is dangerous when it metastasizes because it can get to MORE IMPORTANT PLACES, like, say, your lungs, your stomach, or your HEART. that's SIX TO TEN YEARS OF LIVING IN PAIN AND AGONY AS THE CANCER CHOKES THE LIFE OUT OF YOU.
breast cancer is one of the most treatable cancers if you catch it early enough. there are new therapies being developed all the time. yes, radiation and chemotherapy are dangerous and make you very sick, and very weak. but it can get rid of the cancer and you can recover and you can go on to live a normal life. if you ignore cancer completely, you MOST ASSUREDLY WILL DIE.
i would never wish cancer on anybody, but people like kent hovind are changing my thinking.

The survival rate for treated breast cancer is 80%, if I recall correctly. Which is definitely better than "oh, just live 6 years in agonizing pain, then die because you listened to some fundie godbag blather on about how it's not cancer, but concentrated sin inside of you." Yeah, because they only went to college and medical school, studied as interns and residents, before finally earning their diploma after seven grueling years of studying biology and chemistry and working in hospitals. What do they know anyway?

I don't know who's creepier, the jailed fraud artist, giving advice not to seek medical help, or the daughter, who appears to be rationalizing 'doing nothing' for her mother, because it's probably cheaper. Or - maybe the daughter is genuine in her belief that medicine and doctors are evil. Then it's the mother's fault for brainwashing her kid to be like that in the first place. Poetic justice? Teach your kids to be pyscho fundie morons, and they will deny you medical treatment in your old age...
Hovind, the Kavorquian (sp?) of the fundies. Yes, he should be charged with assisting suicide, but so should anyone who takes his advice on such matters.
Actually, Kunt, you live about 1 to 2 years longer with chemo than without, (average 1.4 years, 95% confidence interval 0.1 to 2.8), rising to 4.4 years with a 22% cure rate for some forms of gastric cancer (Annals of Surgical Oncology 14:348-354 (2007)).
Conversely, in cases of prostate cancer, some chemotherapy drugs increase your life expectancy by a mere 2 to 3 months, but are only used in the final stages of the disease (after hormonal treatments stop working or the cancer spreads to the bones). These drugs, along with painkillers, are mainly used to make the disease tolerable in this terminal phase.
(So remember guys, know what the signs are , and report all possible prostate problems to your doctor!)
All treatments assess their effectiveness by how much they increase life expectancy over no treatment at all, so unless you can find a drug in use that actively reduced life expectancy (as measured by the log rank test (LRT)) in its clinical trials, Kunt...

I wonder where he got this statistic? How many women are diagnosed with breast cancer and then do nothing? I can't see how they'd get enough of a sample to draw a conclusion. The woman's survival would also depend on the stage at which it was caught.
i do hope this woman's daughter isn't as insane as she is. breast cancer doesn't strike minors often, so hopefully this woman has her own medical rights and will choose chemo. if her daughter is a minor, i hope she has a sane, sensible father, or that she's a smart teenager with some rights of her own.
chemo is dangerous, cancer is worse. go with the chemo.

I will concede that. I did forget that while most of the civilized world realizes he may as well have gotten his diploma from a Crackerjack box, there are those that take him as a real doctor. Geesh.
