Lady Checkmate:
Prayers. Sad, but not a gun issue.

How is it not a gun issue? Come on parents lock up your guns, keep them unloaded, put the safety on. It is a gun issue, the parent is to blame with mistreatment of his gun and his son paid for it.
Prayer does not change that.
Passerby
Did anyone else catch the part where the father had apparently filed the serial numbers off his gun? Oh, and the boy had been shot in the goddamned face in a drive-by a year earlier.
Jesus Christ, lady.
Gun safety, guns in the hands of someone not legally allowed to have a gun, gun trafficking, how is this NOT a gun issue? Even if you're not calling for the total ban of guns this is still very much a gun issue. People don't have the proper respect for guns, the ability to track and control the sale of guns is a joke, and everything blame is shifted on to take focus off of guns is also in a completely sad state. Have you seen the budget cuts for mental health services? Or would you prefer flagrant race-baiting and immigration scares?
Man i feel so sorry for that poor kid, suffering such injuries to both the jaw from the drive by shooting and tothe hand from this. I really hope he heals well such that the scars wont be too bad and that he will be able to have full functionality from the areas effected from both injuries. Also this is definitely a gun issue, he filed off the serial numbers and had it illegally.
not a gun issue
...so the bullet issued from another dimension and hit that poor child in the hand? 'Tis a good thing that no gun existed in that immediate area, then, eh?! [/Doug Piranha-levels of sarcasm]
All those children in Dunblane must have been killed in the same way: bullets issuing from another realm of existence: because they sure didn't issue from four (then) legal guns brought to that school in a certain part of Scotland by a loony paedophile for the British public to issue outrage via a huge lobbying campaign to MPs in Parliament to have guns banned here in Britain. Curious how, since 1996, this bizarre interdimensional occurrence has yet to happen in one of Britain's seats of learning, amirite...?!
Checkmate, Lady.
PRAYERS ARE NOT ENOUGH, YA DUMB BROAD!
This poor kid has been shot TWICE, now! The dad is obviously both an irresponsible idiot AND up to something illegal (the latter is likely the real reason the guy was arrested).
The "man" doesn't give a damn about the poor child. I hope the little one gets taken away and given to relatives or somebody who can care for him competently and with love.
The poor child! Only 5 years old and has been shot in the face in a drive-by and lives with a dumbass who's like "D'aaahhh Gun Lock? What's thaaaat *herpaderp*?" and doesn't bother to keep the things in a safe place.
With the mention of drive-bys and filing the serial numbers off the gun, the dad sounds like some sort of criminal. Take the child away from such a horrid influence! If the child won't get killed, he'll probably lose whatever innocence he has and grow up to be a horrid hoodlum like pop.
I want to hug the boy....

....Sweet huggies for a small child (...illustrated with kitties for extra cuteness and WARMTH).

....MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM SPUKIKRAMPUS!
Sure it's not a gun issue, Gingham. That's why the boy shot himself with a water pistol instead, like we would have done at that age.
Next you'll be saying that what happened in Las Vegas wasn't a gun issue (and probably believe that, too).
The only way gun nuts will ever admit that an injury or death is down to the proliferation of guns is if we get to the stage of having robotic guns capable of targetting and firing all by themselves, and one does exactly that on the wrong target. Even then, they'll probably suggest it's robot control that's needed, not gun control.

Well, you've got a point there. In that sort of case I'd sooner blame the idiots who thought that programming guns to fire themselves, even only (or perhaps especially) in specific circumstances, was in any way not an incredibly fucking stupid idea that was just begging for a discharge at the wrong target or fifty when the people actually making said guns outsource the programming to some programming-illiterate jackass who couldn't be bothered to even double-check his work.
Then again, I have common sense, so I'm not the kind of person anyone on either side of the gun debate would listen to.
But yeah, this is one-hundred percent a gun issue. Not only for the fact that it involves a gun at all, or that it involves one that discharged and injured someone in any sort of case other than a self-defense effort after all methods of non-violent resolution have failed, but for the fact that the dumb fuck father obtained it illegally (stupid), stored it outside of any sort of case or safe (also stupid), with the magazine loaded (even more stupid) and inside the gun (especially stupid) with a round in the chamber (incredibly stupid), and, presumably, with the safety off (absolutely, unbelievably stupid - it's no wonder he had to obtain it illegally).
These kinds of idiots are the reason why gun safety rules push for treating any sort of firearm like it's your typical Hollywood-bad-guy gun that empties its entire magazine if you so much as lightly bump it - people injure and kill themselves and other people when they don't.
Confused?
