people kill cows and eat them, we catch mice in traps, we keep other animals in cages and tie them up... if you don't consider humans as having any more value then who's to say it's wrong to do those things to humans, those religious folks once again?

Of course we consider humans to have more value because we are humans! Not because we're God's Chosen species. Not because we need religious morals to tell us what's right and wrong. We are nice to other humans because they are the same species as us!
Why is that so fucking hard to understand?
"who's to say it's wrong to do those things to humans..."
The Golden Rule? Why you people need an entire fucking book over a thousand pages long to keep you from murdering, raping and enslaving anyone and everyone you come across is completely beyond me.
I don't do any of those things. Except for the eating cow part. Yum. I love burgers. However, I would never kill an animal because I believe all life has value. Maybe that makes me a hypocrite, but I like burgers too much to give them up.
I agree. Let's barbecue some christians.
Amanda, don't stir your conscience over livestock. Those animals were born and bred to feed us people.
Fundies are also livestock, born and bred to feed their god.
Ironically, a large number of people think it's wrong to do those things to animals too. One of the most common arguments used to justify it is that "God gave us dominion over them", so we can do what we like.
Similarly, when slavery was all the rage, black people were frequently either animals (see "dominion") or had been especially picked out by God for the whips and chains treatment for being children of Cain, Ham or whatever.
So if having a "God given" moral compass and a book to tell you your values has never stopped people being complete shits if it is in their interest to, what difference will having to use reason, empathy and group consensus make?
You say killing humans is bad because they have more value, yet you support war? Doesn't war kill humans?
I've tried to make it as clear as possible that if I'm out in the bush and eaten by a predator, I don't want it hunted down. I doubt that F&W will listen, but in my mind, I'm on the animals turf and I'm rather prey looking. Hell I'm slow, I don't have teeth, claws, or protective armour. Actually, how the hell did we become the dominant species again?
If I was more ambitious, I'd be willing to dredge up all the lovely posts on here of good religious folk telling the world all the lovely (read: sickening) things they'd do to homosexuals, atheists, Muslims, etc. if they had the power to enact their sick fantasies.
There are different ideas in that field.
Some say we should treat all beings with the same respect that we want to be treated with. We should not kill other living beings for our own food, shelter or clothing. They are often vegans or vegetarians.
Others say that we can treat the animals with respect while they are alive, then kill them as humanely as we can, and eat them.
Others say "damn those animals, we are the rulers of the Universe, we can do whatever we want".
Given the chance, a lion or a tiger (among others) would kill and eat a human. It's the laws of nature, the circle of life. When we are dead, maggots will eat us (if we are not cremated).
Okay then, Scarlets79 - kill and eat a member of your family.
PROTIP: You don't need to be religious to have morals. 'Treat others as you'd want to treat them', 'I wouldn't like to be killed/hurt, nor have my property stolen/damaged, so why should I do the same to others?'. That, and the law everywhere says it's wrong. Extremely wrong.
...although I bet you'd do the same as that Uruguayan rugby team had to in 1972 when they crashed in the Andes, and of course after the airline food ran out, then...
It's called being a social animal. If social animals do kill members of the same species, they are almost invariably from different packs, troupes, flocks, ect.
So Scarlets79, how many people did you kill before you were saved?
None?
But I don't understand! How could you have refrained from killing people every time you felt like it without your god in your life? Did you rely on your, ugh, conscience?!?
cowa - yes , tasty
mice - yes , vermin
animals in cages - bondage ? er, no. what ARE you thinking ?
human women tied up on a bed ? happy times if consensual.
I dont eat people. well not like cow meat anyway ;)
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
