If materialism is true, we are nothing more than glorified monkeys. There is no meaning behind anything you do. You are simply a product of an accident that began billions of years ago.

I think they live in denial about it because they understand it. Why do anything good if there is no such thing as good in the first place? These folks are the freeloaders of religion.

Why discover new drugs to cure cancer and malaria? Why help the poor and needy? Why was the holocaust wrong?

Is there any difference between a stripper dancing in vegas and a doctor serving in west Africa? If materialism is true, there is no difference at all.

It's a truly pathetic individual that is utterly incapable of conceiving of having personal preferences or purposes. The very people claiming ownership of unconditional, selfless love are the ones asserting that it doesn't exist.

I don't need some greater purpose to take pleasure from the pleasure of others or feel pained by the pain of others. I'm not so hollow as to need someone or something else to operate me like some kind of meat marrionette, and the knowledge that I've got one measly little century -- if even that -- to live a life merely reinforces the importance of making both my own life and the lives of others as enjoyable as possible.

I don't NEED the universe to bend around me in order to give a shit about anything. The only thing I NEED is a personal desire to do a thing.

Ah yes, Uncommonly Dense, the deep thinking repository of "ID thought". Created by William Dembski who won't get within throwing distance of the place now. But if you ask, they are all about the science and ID has nothing to do with religion. LOL.

Since Dembski's departure, it has since descended into endless religious and philosophical arguments and the occasional foray in phony science using phony made-up scientific terms when they aren't demonstrating a lack of understanding or misrepresenting legitimate ones that is. The last one worthy of a giggle was Gordon Mullings' "FIACSO" who now spends his time reposting an exploded diagram of a fishing reel like some second rate Gary Gaulin. Now saddled with anti-gay third rate debt collecting lawyer Barry Arrington, they continue to spiral into irrelevance.

I *don't* do anything "good". I do things because I gain a positive emotional reaction from doing so, mitigated by any negative consequence that could result from my actions.

A friend of mine paid for uni via prostitution, he's now working for Medecins Sans Frontieres. Not an answer, but illustrative. As for answers:

1. Not everyone has the skills to be a doctor (I couldn't do it).
2. The stipper is making a far more positive contribution to society than you ever will.
3. SEX IS NOT A BAD THING.

They think Materialism or Communism or Atheism are religions or at least their leaders have convinced them any behavioral system is the same as believing in the concept blindly and absolutely without any supporting evidence.

It's a smokescreen or distraction defense pulled out when you challenge them on evidence for their Biblical beliefs, implying we all believe strongly in things without evidence and their religion is therefore just as valid as any philosophy. Thing is philosophy is not a magic word for truth either as W L Craig infers is his meandering monolougues that ignores many philosophy based in Atheism.

Problem with this is we can be as material as hell and still care about people, it doesn't exclude compassion or demand absolute selfishness. Being materialistic is not a religion or philosophy, it's a desire to want things and to be possessive of ones own property, to differing levels we're all materialistic. Several asses playing this also ask "prove Atheism is real" pretending they don't know it's a non-belief and completely valid as such to ask the believer to prove their point. You can't disprove Zeus Bill OReilly, you can only disbelieve in him.

The other meaning of Materialism is that the universe is made up of , well, stuff or matter which is obvious and is related to the physical forces that exist with and enacted between physically real matter. They are usually attacking the desire to own and depend on material things so they aren't addressing this. They're demonizing want or suggesting the slightest desire is ungodly greed.
