[From this poster's multiple replies on a thread about global warming and population control.]
There are many evangelical Christians who are going back to letting God control their family size, we may be one of them...
God told us to go forth and multiply and told us that HE opened and closed the womb and that children are a blessing from Him. Sounds like He is pretty pro family...
If we took all the people in the world and put them together they could all fit in the State of Michigan in a 3 foot by 3 foot square. There is no need for population control.

A 3 foot by 3 foot square, eh?
Gosh, I've wanted a horse since I was a little girl, but thought I'd need to have lots of land to keep it on. Since I now know that the entire world's population can fit inside my closet, I think I'll rearrange my pantry and keep a horse in between the Frosted Mini-Wheats and the oatmeal.
Um... why would the square need to be in the state of Michigan? Also, sure, people could fit in that 3x3 foot square, if you piled them up really, really high.
The average American needs about 24 acres of productive land to support his/her lifestyle. The planet has 4.5 acres of productive land per person. Sure, you could fit the people in a small area - they've done it in Darfur. Try living in a third-world country for a few months and learn what life is like for most of the five billion people on the planet, then come back with your snotty, ignorant, over-privileged attitude.
In all fairness I think he means that you can give everybody a 3x3 square to stand in and everyone would fit inside Michigan.
Whether or not that's true it completely ignores the fact that you need tons of land to supply resources for all these people.
If everyone in the world consumed as much as an American, we'd need 5 Earths worth of resources to be sustainable. Too bad we only have one...

Is that before or after compacting them?
Yeah, I'd love if I could live in a little 3x3 ft square for the rest of my life. That sounds awesome.
It's funny how so many of these "let's have a family of 25" advocates decry the use of birth control and yet support the use of artificial means (such as fertility drugs) to conceive children. Either family planning technology is ok or it's not. You can't have it both ways.
These idiots are why I wish sterilization of the mentally deficient was still practiced. </sarcasm>
Seriously, if God wants all the population growth, and is looking after all of us, why the fuck are so many people starving?
So population control won't be necessary until there are so many people we can't move. Well before that happens we will destroy any other avaliable habitat for all other plants and animals, diease will spread like crazy, and there will be mass starvation, buried knee deep in our own shit and civil unrest right before we all die out and land becomes inhospitable for life, assuming we havn't also depleted the oceans too.
God told us to go forth and multiply and told us that HE opened and closed the womb and that children are a blessing from Him. Sounds like He is pretty pro family... The problem here, of course, is that this is not nearly how it works. If you fail to get a woman pregnant, it's not because "her womb has been closed". Anyone who's had sexual education in school knows that. The womb can't just close and block the semen out.
If we took all the people in the world and put them together they could all fit in the State of Michigan in a 3 foot by 3 foot square. But I can promise you that if you moved six billion people into one single US State, that State would have an even lower H.D.I. rating than the one expected of North Korea.
Edit: Oh, and I think I finally figured out what he meant by the 3x3 foot square thing. He meant that each person would have a grand 3x3 feet to have fun in. Not that he's suggesting we do it anyhow.
There is no need for population control. While everyone has the right to hold whatever opinions they want, I would appreciate it if they stopped discarding obvious facts in the process.
If we took all the people in the world and put them together they could all fit in the State of Michigan in a 3 foot by 3 foot square. "You first" award?

Are you going to apply this same argument to artificially boosting fertility, too? If you don't, then aren't you being hypocritcal?

Great. Do you want to live your life in a tiny little three foot square? Do you realize what could happen if everyone had to live that way, and there was no place to grow food? Like everybody else who makes this argument, you don't seem to realize that the population issue is not just a matter of how many people there are. Oh, and humans aren't the only things living on this planet, either. Some of us would like to give the other animals some room to live, too, you know.
@Taco Jockey -- Actually, his math (sadly) is correct. 1 square mile = (5280)*(5280) square feet, because you need to account for two dimensions.
Thus: Area of Michigan (sq. ft) = 2,731,804,416,000
Number of 3 x 3 = 9 sq. ft. plots in Michigan: 2,731,804,416,000 / 9 = 303,533,824,000, which is enough to hold the world's population about 45 times over.
That being noted, it still doesn't make it a valid argument in favor of overpopulation.
God said go and multiply but remember that there was no CO2 emissions at the time and there were only no more than 20,000,000 people waiting to die at fourty. Because, I´m sorry, 6 billion people are fit in Michigan?

Not after everyone died of starvation, no. Overpopulation would sort of take care of itself.
See, these people need to spend a few months in China to truly understand the term 'overpopulation.'
However, since they can't be bothered to get out of their armchairs except to go to church (nominally), I doubt that will happen.
I guess if these people ate each other, pooped on each other, lived on each other, and never had any desire to ever have a moment to themeslves, it could work. We could evolve into some sort of super organism.
In reality though, there is not enough food, water, and all purpose capital on this planet to afford the majority of it, a decent standard of living.
I wish these people who claim they're letting God control their family size would stop and examine his track record.
Does he stop the flow of babies when the family fell on hard times financially? No.
Does he stem the flow when poor old mom's uterus prolapses? No.
Does he make sure mom's body has time to recover between pregnancies? No.
Why does this sound all too much as if their family size is totally uncontrolled ?
Since about a third of the world's population are Christians then we could, according to HS4 fit every Christian into a 5x4? foot rectangle in Michigan.
I feel sorry for that state but the rest of the world would be a much better place
"If we took all the people in the world and put them together they could all fit in the State of Michigan in a 3 foot by 3 foot square."
WTF were you smoking? If it's strong, can I have some?
“Sounds like He is pretty pro family”
No, it really doesn’t. If He was proFAMILY, then wouldn’t he keep the womb closed except when she’s married to her lover?
But women can get pregnant without being in a family, or from someone other than their family.
Rather, His alleged choices seem to match evolutionary theory. No moral element, but if anyone’s sperm meets anyone’s egg, no matter the marital status or the future disposition, or even if they know each other’s name, there’s a good chance of reproduction. Also, without that, if there’s a barrier, then there’s no kids.
Confused?
