I’m old fashioned. I like my neighbors being able to have their government reflect their cultural values. Telling people they have no vested interest in how their community governs interpersonal relationships is telling people they have no vested interest in the most basic and important rituals of the human experience. This is absurd on its face. You wouldn’t tell an Amazon tribe what they were doing was wrong if they buried children in mud — traditional peoples are sacrosanct. But Joe Flyover must be a hater.

Er, isn't that exactly what Christian missionaries do: go out into the world and tell people with different beliefs that they're wrong?
"I’m old fashioned. "
That's your problem.
I don't know, but If I tell that Amazon tribe that burying their children in mud is wrong, they may think I'm right, stop the practice and the baby would be alive. So, with such a positive result, why not trying?

As the majority want all consentual sexual relationships to be treated equally, looks like we're both happy.
And p.s. the 'old fashioned' people who wrote the constitution put in all that no religion and equal rights guff because they specifically didn't want government reflecting the people's cultural values. How's that for a mind fuck eh?
Old fashioned people hate paying ANY taxes to the government. If the government reflected those values, it would collapse (as it's on the verge of doing now).
Old fashioned people want their religion proclaimed as the One True Religion. The Constitution mercifully forbids people from doing that (as much as they try).
Some old fashioned people don't want interracial marriages, or indeed any non-Anglo-Saxon folks living anywhere near them. The Supreme Court forbade that in the 1950s and 1960s, and old fashioned people have grumbled about it ever since.
So much for government catering to the interests of old fashioned people.

Yes, we would. Haven't you seen any of those "African mother beats children to death in order to chase out malign spirits" horror stories?

58% in favor is the last number I remember. If this was about outlawing abortion you'd take that as overwhelmingly favored. BTW, gun control has even higher numbers.

1. I don't know enough about rainforest conditions to answer that. If it meant that wild animals getting to the corpse and eating it, yeah there should be a regulation on that.
2. Nobody's forcing you to marry another man or even attend a gay wedding, we just want to keep you from not allowing it for other people.
If you equate burying a child alive to gay marriage, you have removed yourself from any rational debate. Talk about absurd. Also, I thought you fundies were for limited government and individual rights. Special pleading much?

Fine. I'm sure there are a few tiny little piss pot backwater towns in Mississippi with a strong KKK presence waiting for you with open arms.
Well, if the tribe seemed somewhat truculent, and the men carried knives and spears, I might suggest that burying children in mud should be reconsidered.

I'd like to think that most of us here on FSTDT would, actually. And yet, you'd probably describe us as the "moral relativists".

We have that now. The trouble is that people like you can't accept the fact that the majority accepts homosexuality as normal and natural and is in favor of marriage equality.

I'm old fashioned too. That's why I like fundies out of government and kept on the other side of the wall of separation between church and state.

Last time I heard, Holland are a member of NATO. There's a US Air Force base there. Vitally important for the US's area of operations in Europe (as it was at the height of the Cold War in the 50s & 60s; more so today, re. potential rogue states/terrorists etc, including intel. gathering for the Pentagon/CIA/NSA).
Ergo, Allies.
Holland. Very much a Protestant country (King William of Orange, and all that jazz).

Your call, Occigent.
So you are ok giving Obama the green light to legislate morality? See, the big problem is that you are so scared of reality that you waste time talking to the clouds, in hopes that "Skydaddy" will make it all ok for you. Cop out. Loser. Fraidy-cat. Get with reality and realize you are in charge of your own life and actions, and can't hide behind some ancient scribbling.
God told me (only a few moments ago in English) that he thinks all Fundie Christians are asshats and are going to hell, unless they stop meddling in American Politics.. Now you can translate those words into Latin, Greek, what have you, in a vain attempt to twist their meaning in your favor, and circumvent what they say, but here it is from me direct from God. God said, in English, west coast American dialect, "I shall send all fundamentalist Christians who meddle in American politics to hell". Now you know it is true, since it is God's own word. It must therefor be infallible. So pay heed. Bye now. Oh, I will return in 2000 years to take you all to heaven. You are ordered to eat peanut butter loaf, and fake bake-o bits every Saturday til then.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
