I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with anyone here, just pointing out some things on either side of the equation.
Confucianism allows you to kill your wife or daughter if they displease you, as do a large number of Middle Eastern religions including Islam and Hindu.
@Moxy: There are actually laws making adultery illegal. Also, in the case of infidelity being the cause of a legal separation or divorce, the bulk of the assets (if not all of them) go to the spouse who was cheated on regardless of a prenuptial agreement.
Every religion bans the worship of other gods or images, even within polytheistic religions. In Greek polytheism, for instance, worshipers of Hera's cult were punished for worshiping any other god/dess.
If you actually care enough to look into some of the American laws and how they integrate the commandments, you'll see that they're influenced by Christian morality and the commandments. In terms of other countries, non-Christian ones in particular, there is a certain level of collective consciousness. Quite a few cultures, however, do advocate rape and murder. Tribal communities allow men to go to other tribes and kidnap women to make their wives. Men in these societies have a status that allows them to take the women they want and do with what they want with them, and the women have no right to say anything or disagree, less they be killed. In American we would call this rape, yes?
What it comes down to is that communities that do not have Judeo-Chiristian, Hebrew, or Buddhist influence on them, tribal communities, or societies that don't value women DO advocate things like rape and murder and have to laws against adultery (unless it's a woman cheating, in which case she is killed).
