@Lucilius:
Calm the fuck down, I wasn't accusing you of anything. I apologise if I've given the wrong impression, I didn't mean to try and make myself sound as if I'm morally superior. And, no, I wasn't reading Fox News, Breitbart, Russia Today or some other awful outlet, it was the Econ Journal Watch, as reported in the Washington Post and LA Times late last year (see here). I was wrong in that it concerns itself with academics in the humanities and social sciences, not students. I didn't cite this originally, and I probably should have done anyway, because I wasn't arguing with you or attacking you, I was inquiring because I assumed you might have known something about the US education system as you'll be more familiar with it than I am. It should be noted, as stated above, that abundance of Democratic academics is not evidence of bias against conservatives due to it still being possible for Democratic academics giving fair and neutral treatment.
I was also thinking of OTT campus shenanigans and no platforming individuals because they argue points which are at a conflict to what's seen as reasonable (I agree that most of those caught up in this are vile cretins like Milo, but there's something wrong, cowardly and worrying about refusing to accept dissenting views in an environment in which views are to be challenged. It's even more worrying when it's not attention seeking trolls getting caught up, but solid liberals and feminists like Peter Tatchell or Maryam Namazie because of views which upset the liberal student union bodies). When student union bodies don't tolerate dissenting views, and not always because they're genuinely racist or whatever, it can put people off if their views are those being singled out as unspeakable.
I was inquiring about this, I was not accusing you, my last paragraph was just a comment in relation to you saying that there were conservative campuses as well as liberal ones. I wasn't saying that you'd agree with it. It did flow from your comment about there being liberal and conservative campuses, I was highlighting an issue that could arise from this line of thought when taken further. You didn't give me enough evidence in your line of thinking to point the finger at you over this.
You've shared a post about conservative persecution complexes, and I've experienced enough of it to believe that there's truth in it, but I've met decent right wingers who have been unfairly treated because of their beliefs and are not playing false and there have been cases where causes they care about are not being supported for dubious reasons (see: here).
