I remember the scripture that says "Be fruitful and mulitply", I don't remember there being a scripture that says "Be careful with the planet". People need to stop letting science be their lives dictator.

Genesis 1:28 says "Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth."

Yes, God is saying "subdue" the planet, but that's not the point. He's saying we're to "have dominion" over Earth. As in "you're in control over My creation, now rule it wisely". He's not saying "I've created this world, now go and destroy the damn thing through your recklessness and neglect". That would not, in my opinion, be responsible stewardship. I frigging challenge you to argue otherwise.

Edit: Yeah, and there's the whole "replenish" bit, too.

Yes, it's amazing the number of facets of modern living that one can't find in the scriptures. For instance, I don't remember there being a scripture that says, "Be a gullible simpleton in all your day to day activities". Neither do I remember a scripture that says, "A wise man will always a bigot be". Nor, "Be a clod and be like God", though, I don't know, that one might be there. Nor, "Lies and deception are the rocks on which fundamental cultism is based". Nor, "Remember, Mammon trumps all, including the well being of the planet". Nor, ... well I could go on forever, so rich are the sources of modern day living not mentioned in the scriptures. Thanks, for alerting us LEdge.

I don't remember scripture saying "don't empty your bedpans into the water supply", either. That's why we had massive cholera epidemics until people figured out that the disease was being spread by their own shit. God would have known that if He had written the Bible, and added proper sanitation to the long list of stuff about what you could eat and who you could see naked. It's not in the Bible because God didn't write the Bible. It was written by a bunch of bronze age Arab goat herders who didn't know anything about stuff like sanitation, the dangers of burning leaded gasoline or properly disposing of mercury.

To be fair, ecology wasn't a huge deal in Biblical times. Nomadic tribes like the Hebrews had to keep moving because they and their herds would, locust-like, consume everything in a given region. Not to mention when you get to New Testament times - the Romans deforested Italy almost completely for building material and fuel for their baths, factories, etc.

The concept that human actions were capable of damaging the ecology and climate in any lasting manner simply did not exist when the Bible was written. Projection of modern environmental concerns onto a 2000+ year old text is completely anachronistic.

... which begs the question, why would one want to think in the short-sighted, ignorant manner of a filthy goatherd from 2000+ years ago, but whatever...

As science changes all the time, it's not a dictator but a guide. The Bible says "Do as I say, or else..." That's more dictator-like.

A few examples, not the next paragraph after your quotation, as you must have read that, surely. Surely?
