There has only been one true theocracy in world history, that of ancient Israel. Where God mediated his law through Moses and the priesthood. All national decisions were in the hand of God.

Ancient Egypt had a theocracy for nearly 4,000 years (with occasional periods of breakdown). The pharaoh was considered a living god on Earth. For the nobility and clergy, life was pretty good; for the serfs and slaves and others on the lower-class end of things, not so much. The individual was not valued AT ALL unless he was of high rank; the pharaoh and state were always of first importance.

Also, as others have pointed out, today we have such theocracies as Iran and Saudi Arabia. Go over there and see what a theocracy is REALLY like. It doesn't matter which god they claim to worship; it's all about having power over everyone else in that god's name, and using it to control them.

Just because it's a theocracy doesn't necessarily mean that YOU get to be one of those running it.

But only as long as what you think is good and righteous is what the people in charge think god thinks is good and righteous... and you're free to think any other way, but you'll get tortured if you do.

Actually, Communism leads to Utopia, which is by definition, perfect. Here, no-one would commit crimes, everyone would have their fill, and people have total freedom. Of course, communism never actually worked, so we never saw Utopia.

Whereas your theocracy certainly promotes goodness and righteousness to those that agree with the government. if you disagree, it is evil and immoral, and thus ungood/bad and unrighteous. Thus, the theocracy fails when you look at it properly.

Back to communism, or more specifically, Utopia, with total freedom, would allow Christians to be Christians, atheists to be atheists, for people to have whichsoever sexual orientation they might desire.

Two words. Warren Jeffs. Anyone who claims to be "God's chosen representative" is someone I want to get as far fucking away from as possible.

Funny, I never heard of any communist country stoning a citizen for being a rape victim. There were definite human rights abuses in those countries, not nearly as bad as the theocracies of the Middle East. And from what I heard, many of the horror stories of the post-Stalin USSR were greatly exaggerated (the stories of the Stalin era were fairly spot on, though). In fact I know a number of middle-aged Russians who said they wouldn't have traded their Soviet childhood for anything.

Okay, it is clear that you have never read 1984. In the book, it was made clear that ruling party was only using the rhetoric of socialism to maintain their authority. The essence of their government was the worship of Big Brother, who was elevated to divine status. The introduction of critical thinking to counter their religious fervor would have destroyed the system (hence the need for the thought police).

Also, it is clear that you have never read the Old Testament. The theocracy of ancient Israel was not perfect. That is why they had the near constant problem of the people turning to other gods. They were looking for things that the god of Israel could not or would not provide, i.e. they were unsatisfied.

Also, it is clear that you have never read the New Testament. Jesus' teachings about money, especially in Luke, are incompatible with a capitalist mindset. In the book of Acts, Luke describes the earliest Christian communities as holding all things in common, with each contributing to his/her ability and taking as they needed. That's right Not Zane, the early Christian were dirty commies according to your bible.

Also, it is clear that you have not read anything about history. History has shown that when a ruler or ruling class can convince the masses that they speak for god, the door is opened for unspeakable abuse. After all, if the state speaks for god, then speaking out against the state is speaking out against god. It doesn't matter if the state is Catholic, Protestant, Muslim or Buddhist (see Tibet under the Dalai Lama): once god becomes the state, human rights become null and void.

In conclusion, you have no idea what you are talking about, and can be safely ignored.
