I thought that Lincoln and Kennedy were the only ones to be assassinated. That's what I was taught in school anyway.

The hilarious thing is that it's entirely possible that nobody mentioned Garfield or McKinley being assassinated, so he assumed the only ones who had been were the two he had heard of.

Also, It's ridiculous to think, "X years ago I was taught this, and I know it's the right way [because I'm smart], so I want to keep it that way," which is what this guy is essentially saying. Although this doesn't apply so much to the topic of assassinated presidents, it is not only possible that knowledge has progressed since when any specific person went to school, but it is very likely it has in that field.

Unless that exclamation mark was supposed to be a question mark, I agree with dpareja on the ad. (Edit: Forget about the first half of this remark, I checked out the thread and the punctuation was correct.)

Didn't think of that, although as you implied, he is still wrong to think that. And even if he was only taught of two, the amount of presidents who have been assassinated to this day is not exactly vital to getting along well in life. Somebody could mention that there were four, and you could say, "Oh, I only ever heard of Lincoln and Kennedy being assassinated," and then they would say that Garfield and McKinley had as well.

So yeah, I agree with you. (Added the "with you" for clarity, I don't agree with the guy quoted.)

Edit: It's hilarious how these guys try to acknowledge the facts that they hate Obama and that nobody should be assassinated (in this situation) at the same time. "This is going a wee bit far!" "I don't like the man, but I don't want him assassinated...very."

Strangely I had a vision.
This new American president is speaking to a crowd, when suddenly a shot rings out. He falls amid a spray of blood.... But then rises to his feet clutching the ruined socket where an eye once rested.
"STOP!" he shouts to his bodyguards who are now in kill mode.
He looks directly at his would-be assassin, and askes him "Why?".....
The assassin drops his pistol and flees in blind terror.

Within the hour, the one eyed president is on national television to announce that he forgives the shooter. And that he is ready to drop the whole matter as a missunderstanding.

That's exactly how I read this --- that he's criticizing public schooling (i.e., his own) for allegedly not mentioning all of the presidents who had been assassinated. I think it's far more likely that he simply doesn't remember the other two because they aren't as prominently memorialized in our culture.

Even so, this quote really shouldn't even have been submitted, let alone approved. However, the newspaper ad referenced here definitely needs to have its own entry here on FSTDT!

I don't agree with this, either. Maybe I'm just being optimistic, but I think the editors thought, "Great Presidents!" I mean, it's not exactly their fault that influential people have a habit of getting shot at. Stupid mistake, but I don't think it should automatically be assumed that they're directly threatening Obama.

Amirite?

Otherwise, STFU and obey without question, nay, worship your current president as if he were Lord God Almighty. You lot on Ruptured Retards certainly did (and continue to) with your previous God Emperor of Fucking Up, George Dumbya Bush, and Ronnie Raygun (who himself was the victim of an assassination attempt).
