Those who wear wedding rings will also backslide in the wearing of apparel and eventually on all matters of Christian holiness

What the....does that make any logical sense to anyone? Wearing wedding rings causes you to sin?!
EDIT: Still trying to figure this out. Is he saying that wearing wedding rings will somehow stop you from wearing clothes, or from wearing modest clothes?
And what's with the menorah? Are they Christian or Jewish?
@L: This is an extremist position of the idea that all jewelry is evil/sinful, loosely based on unadornment/modesty verses in the bible. Even strict advocates, though, usually waive wedding rings and other "utility" jewelry (watches, etc).

Oh noes.... As an atheist I can no longer use <redacted> words as they have the power of <redacted> of Nazareth and his father, <redacted> . And since I am under the influence of <redacted> I am evil and can not be allowed to enjoy the power of <redacted> , can not receive the <redacted> and can not go to <redacted> on Sundays.
Oh well!
Fundy girl: Oh, this is a beautiful ring, a perfect wedding band!
fundy guy: (thinks, I don't want to waste my money on this) says: Oh my, don't you know that wedding bands are sinful! We'll not wear them! Next time I'll have to slap you!
Fundy girl: *sigh* I'll submit to your wishes!
You must be so lonely. Wearing a wedding dress, eating rocky raod ice cream, staining the Hell out of that dress, crying while watching shows about people getting married.
Also from this ... post?
"The word "ring" is first found in Genesis 41:42 where Pharoah took his off and put it on Joseph's hand. This was not a wedding."
So you say, big boy. Nobody says "no" to the Pharoah.
Apparel = other jewelry. i.e. old slippery slope argument.
Wedding rings lead to rings on other fingers, earrings, and godforbid, toe rings or belly button rings, which lead to dancing.
"I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes"
-- 1 Timothy 2:9
Most wedding rings are made of gold, you see. They should switch to platinum if they want to follow the Bible.
I couldn't resist... since the fundies I know personally are waaaaayyyyyy too hung up on their rings. Either picking out their wedding rings before finding a guy or judging the guy based on what he'll buy her.
Of course, I'm still trying to figure out how wedding rings are "pagan" unless we are using the old term of "anything other than the mother church."
I'm hoping my atheist BF sees this and takes the hint to annoy the fundies even more - but no diamonds, ok? ;)
"Whisky, Tango, Foxtrot....over?"
Mike, Oscar, Romeo, Echo,
Bravo, Uniform, Lima, Lima, Sierra, Hotel, India, Tango. ...over and out!
“backstde in the wearing of apparel”
Now i just keep hearing about Ahab the Arab’s girlfriend with rings on her fingers and bells on her toes and a bone through her nose….
“and eventually on all matters of Christian holiness”
Ah. I get it.
Wearing a wedding ring is a reminder that you’re married and should be chaste. If you need to tie a string around your finger so you don’t sin, you’re going to sin, anyway. You’re not really dedicated to the holiness.
When we got married, we both had jobs that involved sticking our hands into electronics, so we didn’t wear the rings. Lost them somwehere. Doesn’t really matter, we don’t cheat. But Christains have LOST THEIR SHIT seeing married people who don’t display rings. It’s like i intend to cheat when the opportunity arises.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
