Maybe the problem your having is that you're trying to fit God into what you know about "science". Maybe that's the wrong way. Maybe instead you should try to fit science into what you know about God.

Don't start from the proposition that everything you learned in science class was correct, and then try to make God fit into that picture. Instead, start from the position that everything in the bible is true, and then try to see how science fits in with that. If it doesn't fit, it's the current world's view that's wrong, not the bible.

Doesn't work (unless what you "know about God" is that he doesn't exist).

If you start from any biblical "truth" that contradicts science and say "the science is wrong about this", then you beg the question of why it is in agreement with another bit of science, so you discount that science as well, bringing into contention another bit of science, and so on.

If the universe was created 6000 years ago, then it was either created with the appearence of incredible age, and God is a massive liar, or gravity is wrong, thermodynamics is wrong, optics is wrong, classical mechanics is wrong, etc.

But these things are demonstrably not wrong, so you accept them in order to function except where they contradict the bible. Gravity works like the scientists say, except where it implies and old universe. Light moves and bends like it does in the text books, except where that would contradict the bible.

You have to maintain a double-standard where the same science is true here, but not there where it undermines your faith. You basically have to lie to yourself for Jesus. And usually, from there it is but a short step to lying to others.

You're absolutely right TEiN. Actually, not enough emphasis is placed on the educational value of the Bible, especially the King James version. A group of us have founded a Bible Boffin college to further the cause of the Bible as an educational tool, we are all tools by the way, tools of the Lord.

Our success rate is second to everyone and everything in churning out the future educational elite of the world. The great thing is, we save a hell of a lot of cash by employing only one text book, the only one we or anybody else will ever need, the Bible, King James version. We take it in turns and share it. Mind you, it's getting a bit tatty. Does anyone have a spare that they haven't yet consigned to the dustbin?

Here are some examples showing the efficacy of our approach. For instance Sid who is interested in quantum mechanics is busily consuming Deuteronomy and is coming along nicely, I foresee a Nobel coming his way soon. Mary is studying modern languages and is finding Habakkuk to be essential reading. Christine studies the culture and history of Japan and is breezing through her course with the help of Genesis.

We also have have a great sponsorship deal with local businesses. As an example, Bloggs and Bloggs were commissioned to design a new suspension bridge, they contacted us straight away, a deal was struck, we consulted 2 Corinthians, and a plan was winging its way to them within a fortnight. AJN Technology needed help with their latest supercomputer project, we perused Ezekiel and presented them with detailed plans within three days.

Even the computer I'm using to type this comment was built mainly by studying Obadiah, the software was written by utilizing Revelation. Good news, next month we will be upgrading our equipment and already have a lamb and a bullock fattened in preparation for the sacrifice. And next week, the local priest is coming round to perform the choirboy-behind-the-bike-shed ritual.

So, you're saying your god is a liar? Why else would he put all of the evidence that leads to scientific discovery and deduction right where we could find them, if that evidence is false? There can only be one reason, to trick us and deceive us and that makes your god a dirty, filthy, no-good, two-faced, back-stabbing liar. Thanks for clearing that up.

Okay. Try to create a machine requiring wheels or similar components (gears etc) that requires them to be perfectly circular. Using the Bible's notion that Pi = 3. (and not mathematics & thus teh ebil 'science's acknowledgement that Pi = 3.1415926535897...) Including the machinery required to make that machine*.

If it doesn't work, it's the Bible that's wrong, not science..

And thus you wouldn't have all the amazing things that modern life has to offer. Based on the 'current world view': Science.

'Tis amazing how so much can be acheived by the simple use of 3.1415926535897..., eh TEiN? Because things would be completely fucked up if we followed the Biblical view that Pi = EXACTLY 3.

*- And no using current world's science in making said machine(s) to build the machinery required for building the original machine - that's cheating!

Okay, then. Starting from the Bible's proposition that Pi = exactly three, seeing as - you say - everything in your precious Bible is 'True':

Your next mission, should you decide to accept it, is to make 2+2=5; give a five-year old - who already has two toys - another two toys, and ask him/her how many he/she has. Seeing as - according to O'Brien/the Inner Party/Big Brother in Orwell's "1984" - 2+2=5 being 'True'.

This argument will self-destruct in five seconds. Bad luck, TEiN.

Moral 'Truth' is purely subjective. Otherwise, why are there thousands of denominations of Christianity, all claiming they have the 'Truth' - especially those who don't believe in the (C)Rapture - pray tell...?!

Mathematics is the basis of Science. Which is purely objective. Unless you can build a wheel on the Bible's 'Truthful' mathematical model, then you've destroyed your own argument, pal.

Reality does not bend itself to your will. And unless your 'God' can prove otherwise in person, now, then neither is he God.
