The political committee Abolish Abortion Florida (AAFL) has launched a ballot initiative to amend the state's constitution to punish abortion as capital murder. Under the proposed amendment, anyone who performs or procures an abortion would be charged with first degree, pre-meditated murder. "Abortion" would include any abortifacient drug or device that can kill an embryo by preventing implantation, as well as the intentional destruction of unwanted IVF embryos. The amendment would define life as beginning at fertilization rather than "conception," and declares that "abortion deprives an innocent human being of the inalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

According to AAFL, the idea is not only to collect enough signatures to get the measure onto the 2018 ballot, but also to encourage legislators to begin putting forward legislation to abolish abortion instead of merely regulating it. Per AAFL: "The Supreme Court cannot make murder legal. Pro-life politicians have passed incremental regulations for decades, but it's time to abolish abortion by recognizing it for what it is – cold-blooded murder – and prosecuting it accordingly."

A fetus or an embryo is not a human being. It is a subhuman, automatically afforded less rights than a real human, since it is less important than a living adult human being. I don't see how that is challengable, it must be how fundie religion warps you mind that people consider a fetus equivalent to an adult women.

Yes they can. They are there to interpret the Constitution (as made in 1787). Where in the Constitution does it protect against murder? In fact, the Supreme Court could decide that killing Christians is acceptable if whoever wanted to kill them (Satanists?) felt like it, and you couldn't say it was unconstitutional. Never underestimate the power of the Supreme Court.

What about people who have spontaneous abortions, a.k.a. miscarriages? Will you be trying them for manslaughter, like they do in El Salvador? Miscarriages as late as around week 12 are so common (especially in first pregnancies), few people tell anyone outside the family about a pregnancy until after week 12.

What about white cops shooting black people who are just reaching for their wallets to show the driver's license? Isn't that cold-blooded murder too?

So, your courts have too little to do? They're just sitting around, rolling their thumbs?
Or, are they already swamped with work as it is, and you want to add to their work-load?

And, you're prepared to raise your taxes to pay for all the extra children born to poor women, and for the children whose mothers die because they couldn't get an abortion, of course?

Oh great every page has a regressive leftist on it.

This is pure propaganda. Unless you have a psycho serial killer in the police force, no cop is going to do that, not even a racist cop. You'd need a super racist to hate blacks so much that you're willing to risk going to prison for life just to kill one black stranger you never met. And serial killers are about as rare as lightning strikes. Can't do much about them. They strike and then it's too late.

Fuck man, the police have far better resources to commit a crime because they know what other cops will be looking for. So they know how to cover their tracks to some extent.

If the police wanted to indiscriminately murder blacks, there would be easier more stealthy ways to do it. But even that would be stupid since there's no gain from it.

It's a waste of time. They should try actually reading the Constitution sometime. Article VI, Clause 2 is known as "The Supremacy Clause" and states:

"This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing [sic] in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding."

A state Constitution is subservient to the US Constitution and the Supreme Court has already ruled that the US Constitution protects a woman's right to an abortion.

The Supreme Court doesn't make anything legal or illegal. It determines whether the Constitution or laws "made in Pursuance thereof" makes things legal or illegal.

I have come to the conclusion that conservatives are the way they are simply because they never bother to find out how things work.
