Lightyears is yet another UNPROVEN scientific theory, when one looks in a telescope at an image it is in real time and nothing exist to prove otherwise, just think of the ill-logic the image is not really reality, there is no looking into time by looking at the galaxies, IMPOSSIBLE!

The light year is NOT A THEORY, but a measure of cosmic distance, which is close to six trillion miles.
Light has been measured by precision instrumentation to travel close to 186,272 miles per second.
3.26 light years equals one parsec, which is the base unit for finding stellar distances through parallax, using a base measurement equal to the diameter of Earth's orbit around the Sun (186 million miles).
The light that defines the Andromeda galaxy (M31) to our eyes, left Andromeda 2.5 million years ago. What we see now is what M31 looked like 2.5 million years ago.
What's impossible about that?

Brest: Yes, I think that he really is claiming that light is instantaneous. He probably doesn't even realize he's doing it, of course, but the bottom line for him is that any solid evidence that the universe is far older than 6,000 years cannot possibly be allowed.
Last year, Voyager 1 passed the 100 AU milestone, which makes it 100,000 light-seconds away...[86,400 seconds in a 24-hour day]...thus, it takes more than one day for a radio signal from Earth to reach Voyager 1.
100,000 light-seconds travelled in 30 years. Not bad.
Gleep. Divide the light-seconds figure in half, sorry...1 AU = 500 light-seconds, not a thousand.
The *round-trip* signal time is over a day.

Because, of course, a random yahoo in the series of tubes knows so much more about space and the cosmos and the infinite than people who consistently refined theories that have been in the works since THE SIXTEENTH CENTURY.

The speed of light is a constant, finite number- already proven.
Constant, finite speeds take time to travel across certain distances- bigger distances equals more time elapsing.
I think this is called a "proof."
