[Why does Christianity frown upon magic anyway? Weren't Jesus and Moses basically wizards?]
Because it's invoking his enemies for help. It's a specific form of idolatry.
Jesus and Moses didn't practice ritual magic, they were working under God's initiative.

So your rituals invoke your God, and mine invoke your Devil, despite the names mine actually use. Gotcha.
Then again, these are probably the same people who think D&D and Harry Potter contain actual spells (as opposed to names and descriptions of spell effects in a game and dog Latin, respectively).
Because it's invoking his enemies for help.
You don't know very much about magic, do you? There are whole occult systems based in calling upon angels or god for help.
"Jesus and Moses didn't practice ritual magic, they were working under God's initiative."
Moses v. Pharoah's preists.
Jesus? I refer you to the "Lord's Prayer". If that's not ritual magick...
And then there was King Saul who hired the witch of Endor to conjure up the spirit of Samuel. According to the bible it worked too.
I guess Christians fear magic for the same reason they fear science: it works better than prayer.
Ok, let's have fun with this:
P1: Magic is invoking supernatural beings.
P2: Praying is invoking god to help you.
C: Praying is magic.
So, if:
P1: Magic is idolatry and
P2: Praying is magic, then
C: Praying to god is idolatry.
Either it's this, or you would argue that walking backwards isn't walking at all and only walking forwards can be called walking. Because other than the figurative direction of magic/prayer it's pretty much the same thing.
Yeah, learn the difference between good magic and bad magic. If it comes from God, it's good, and if it doesn't, it's bad.
Here in Italy all the wanna be magicians, astrology experts and etc. say that their power come from Jesus,God or Mary, how do you explain that?
That old black magic has me in its spell,
That old black magic that you weave so well,
C'mon, everybody, sing along ...
Those icy fingers up and down my spine,
The same old witchcraft when your eyes meet mine.
1) Are you going to tell me that the Christian Mass isn't ritual magic, too?
2) Thinking of D&D, I never understood the outcry over it. How totally easy would it be to homebrew up a Christian-friendly version? I'd bet there are loads of super-Christian types who would have an absolute ball saving the world from Satan's Demons with their Paladin of the Almighty God.
It has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Bible is true, because of geography. Therefore, we know that Bible God is magic and can do genocides and stuff. Therefore magic and genocides is hot shit.
Confused?
