Ironically, I remember a time when homosexuality was a punishable offence - amazingly hard to prove (females dont normally sodomise each other*, fundies rarely acknowledge the existence of lesbians), so it ended up being a way for people to leave quickly or for the chain of command to discharge people who were otherwise unwanted.
