For president, would you rather vote for an atheist, a gay-married man, or an evangelical christian?

the atheist: gets rid of all religious entities in the government (to actually become separated from church and state)
Ex. taking away "in god we trust" on currency, officiating the original pledge of allegiance ("god" wasn't inserted until the 1950s), etc

The gay-married man: establishes legality of gay marriage in all 50 states and promotes gay awareness in schools (aka that it isn't evil to be gay, that it is simply who some people are; also noting that it is not a myth or disease.)

The evangelical christian uses god metaphors in all that he does, does not support scientific research he believes is contradictory to the bible, and believes in creation, no global warming, and geocentric theories.

Naomi : The Christian. This is a Christian nation, and beliefs among the minority should not enforce their beliefs on a mostly Christian nation.

Also, those issues are not what you should be voting about. Nor should you vote for someone because they belong to a certian religion or not. What are they going to do about inflation? High gas prices? The war? The failing economy?

I'd like someone who is honest. The atheist and the gay man are more likely to be HONEST than the E.C.

The Pledge was changed during the "Red Scare" to distinguish "us" from "those evil godless commie bastards". This change should never have been made.

You mean, he'd ensure *equality under the law* for GLBT citizens, and *tell the truth* about homosexuality? Huh. I don't see anything bad about that, except maybe you lot would whine even louder about "persecution".

If I were only to pay attention to the first sentence, I'd have to say that it really depends. I'm looking for political ideals that match up with my own, a good track record of getting things done, minimal scandal, and someone who can inspire cooperation.

If I were to look at your stereotypes, I'd have to choose the gay-married man. I can't abide by a leader getting rid of other government officials simply because they are religious, even if I would like to see "in god we trust" and "under god" eliminated. I also would be very much against the evangelical christian who does not know how to separate church and state, does not protect minorities, is against freedom of religion, is too pre-occupied with his beliefs to run a country, and is against education. Your gay-man seems like a pretty cool cat.

BTW stereotypes are stupid.

Although I didn't vote for his lot last year, Nick Clegg:

Leader of the Liberal Democrats, ensured that - via a Coalition - David Cameron's Conservatives got into 10 Downing Street. Clegg is said Coalition government's Deputy Prime Minister.

He's an Atheist.

Like I say: without him, Cameron's Conservatives - whilst elected - wouldn't be a working government.

PROTIP: There are gay MPs in Ed Miliband's Labour Party. There were openly gay ministers - alomg with MPs - in Gordon Brown's & Tony Blair's cabinets previously.

Moral: We in the UK aren't as obsessed about religion as you fundie nutty buggers are over there. And that's just how we Brits like it; it's also how it's going to stay. Fact: being an openly religious politician here in the UK is electoral suicide. And we have a state religion, the Church of England.

...oh, and 'Humilty'? Get an education. Our government-controlled, secular school system ensured I know how to spell properly. What do you have against Atheism?

Better to be Politically Correct - as in secular, Atheist, and left-wing, than 'Right' - than wrong, I find. And, living in one of the Top 5 least religious parts of the UK, you'll find it hard to find a more secular part of the world.

...except, perhaps, for India. Certainly politically. And that's the most religious country on the planet. [/irony]
