And yet this is protected speech, while proclaiming the Word of God is a hate crime?

1: Yes, it is protected speech. It's a bitch, isn't it?
2: Proclaiming the "Word of God" is not a hate crime you severely delusional jackass. Telling people they should die, insinuating they should die or actually killing them because of their sexuality/religion/skin color and then saying, "but I'm just proclaiming my religious beliefs!" is a hate crime.
Please learn the difference. Then you can work on distinguishing reality from your fantasy world of constant persecution for following your precious Jebus.
@#1039214:
Blasphemy day?
THIS IS MADNESS!
No, this is...SPARTAAAAA!!!
Sorry. Been spending too much time on Icanhascheezburger.
Oh Jesus Fucking Christ. Why is it that whenever they hear of someone practicing their right of free speech, those stupid raptards always claim that preaching Christianity is a hate crime? And yet not one of them has ever been prosecuted for posting on RR.
I know, I know, persecution complex. But I'm tired of seeing it so often. I guess it wouldn't bother me so much if I didn't know that if they were in charge, the RR crowd would make blasphemy a crime.
"...proclaiming the Word of God is a hate crime?"
Not at all. You are perfectly free to do so.
Shoving a bible in my face, insulting me, and making stupid statements that your god loves me, even though your book clearly states that he makes people not believe in him so that he can enjoy watching them suffer forever in a lake of fire?
That's not a "hate crime". Neither is me telling you where you can stick your stupid book, nor my offer to help you with that act.
Actually carrying out about 79% of what your god commands in that book? That would qualify as a hate crime.
In the U.S. constitution, the section of the first amendment for freedom of speech protects ideas or speech that may be offensive to others in order for those with minoritive to extreme beliefs freely express their ideas without punishment. This also helps the public in general see what kind of beliefs are out there and how many people believe that idea.
Saying Bible verses is also covered in the first amendment in both the religous and free speech sections. However, any actions such as making speech to incite violence, impede the rights of others, and/or cause public discord or disturbance is not covered in the U.S. Constitution.
gods word is as legal as ever.
your word is not.
your word is not gods word.
simple. a kindergartener could understand that.
I'm pretty sure that walking around saying "God is a prick" would get me more dirty looks than "God loves you."
I really don't see why you're whining so much. You think everything atheists say is blasphemy (because as we all know, saying you don't believe in God means that you think you ARE God), so why is a special day any different?
The book of Deuteronomy is full of hate crime!
Have you wondered why books dont have age limits like movies and games?
Its because your 'Good Book' is so full of hate and bigotry that it would be illegal to sell/show to kids.
I'm doing hate crime today. Here's one. "Let there be light", I proclaim that God said. Here's another one, "The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge?", God said, I also proclaim. Boy, am I vindictive and hateful or what?

I don't say 'Fucking Wally!' when I accidentally hurt myself, so why should you care if I say 'Jesus Tittyfucking Christ!' whenever I hit myself on the thumb with a hammer? If doing so is such a heinous crime, then Jesus can take me to court himself. If as you fundies claim that 'Jesus is Alive!', then he can do exactly that. So why doesn't he, hmmmmmm?
The phrase 'Blasphemy is a victimless crime' exists for a reason. When you can figure out that reason, then congratulations. You've discovered the true Meaning of Life. And welcome to Reality.
Then there's a place for you here in FSTDT.
Usung the 'word of god' to belittle, abuse and opress a group of people for no reason but because a 2k year old book vaguely touches slightly on the issue and doesn't give a very clear decision....yeah, that's more of a hate crime
"proclaiming the Word of God" = putting one's personal opinion into the mouth of a deity. It's the ultimate appeal to authority (a type of logical fallacy), if ever there was one.
EDIT: I said "authority" because yes I do think that a certain amount of religiousness and piety is evolutionarily hardwired into our brains. Thus, religion is an instinct, of sorts.
But then, I think not all instincts should be acted out in public ;-) and certainly not endorsed by the state.
Hate speech against a group (chargable only for violence or inciting violence) is a hate-crime.
You can hate the gays, you can tell everyone. I hate Jack from 'Will and Grace', that loser would certainly incite me to insults and sarcasm. I wouldn't wish him dead (or that bitch Karen)
See, that's not hate speech, just an opinion with no final solution. I wouldn't wish harm to them, just ignore and avoid them. Try it sometime
Live and let live
It's none of your business
Make someone else's life your business is only acceptable if they are harming you or others. Hence hate crimes.
Why beat a stranger or wish violence to someone you don't know whom has no bearing on your life?
Confused?
