[In response to a Catholic using birth control.]
Saying "The world is overpopulated enough" is a pure excuse and alame one. You lack the facts. One main reason there are so many problems in the world is because there are not enough younger people- there is an entire gemeration of people who shoudl be here but aren't! These people could have solved the problems we have today....instead the older people are more in abundance than us younger people and it is getting worse because WE ARE NOT HAVING ENOUGH CHILDREN!!! Do you realize that the muslim nations will take over the world soon if we do not start having more children? You need to wake up- I suggest you call your Diocese immediately so you can be re-schooled in the Catholic Faith.

"You lack the facts"
Pot..kettle..
Oh, so Muslim children (not to mention African and Asian children) don't count? Such respect for life!
I think this goes in RSTDT, too.
What the fuck?
Muslims are not at war with anyone else...their fundamentalist sects are at war with your fundamentalist sects though...this is why I see religion as a blind evil. Neither side will see it, neither side will understand it, but both sides will continue ruining it for everyone else in the name of their god

Why, you...you...young Whippersnapper!
Go to your room.
And get off my DAMN LAWN!
@ 887499: more of the thread? Just read more of the quote.
"As a Catholic, you may dissagree with the Church on the issues taught in Humanae Vitae (birth control) but you MUST OBEY the Church on this- failure to obey, knowing the Church teaches what you are doing is wrong and sinful- is MORTAL SIN"
Now this is just funny. There's too many older people? The reason is because all the younger one's are killing themselves off, by being idiots. It's not a population problem, it's an idiocy problem. Most older people try to enjoy what they have left of life. Younger people live like they have all the time in the world. They're killing themselves. Which is good, since there is a population problem. It's natural selection at work. You want to be an idiot, fine, but you get weeded out in the process. I sorely dislike teenagers, myself. I even hated myself when I was a teenager (of course, I was a fundy christian in high school, so I guess that explains part of it).
Yes of course klery.
what we need to do the reduce the percentage of old people is make more young people, who then grow old, requiring even more birth. I don't see any flaw with your system *coughpiramidschemecough*.
Or we could just wait 30 years for the problem to solve itself...
Overthrow the old? That has got to be the best argument I've ever heard for having bunches of kids. (I'm being sarcastic)
Then again, I'd rather have the money and resources to raise a few kids with a good education - a lot more likely to have problem solvers that way.
The world is indeed full of children. Many countries have a very high birth rate, and the extraordinary number of kids running around is the first thing a visitor notices. But klery thinks these are the "wrong" kids. Perhaps because they're brown, or just not like her in some other way, so the white, Christian world has as its duty to catch up. Racism in the name of God.
well, if by young you mean under say 21, and old you mean over about 60, of course there is an uneven ratio. if there was an even distribution of people per age (which there isnt...baby boomers!) then there would be more people over 60, simply because there are more ages over 60. once you get to 22, you arent 'young' anymore. once you get past 81...you're still old.
So, in order to prevent Teh Doom of Western Civilisation(TM) we should replace one faction of crazy pro-natalist breeder fundies with another faction of crazy pro-natalist breeder fundies? How, exactly, are you guys different from each other?
I despair.
Mister Spak #887577
except catholics aren't christians
of course they are. what they aren't is protestant, i.e. the most common flavor of christianity in the U.S.
where do people get the idea that catholics are not christians...?
Duplicate, but OMG brown people are out breeding us.
Stormfronts that way dude -->>
Edit
@ Jadehawk
Mr. Spack was being sarcastic. I guess you're new here and don't realize how often we hear that they're not Christian, unless of course they need to count them to claim the majority.
Same goes with Mormons, JW's and everybody else.
Yeah, we need more people to figure out how to solve this overpopulation problem. The best way to fix a problem is to keep doing the same exact thing that got us into the mess in the first place. It's like the time I got a cavity, so I stopped brushing my teeth until they all fell out. Problem solved!
This actually is a problem in Europe. The population pyramids have inverted and we have a pension timebomb waiting to explode. One solution would be to bring more young people into the picture (as is starting to happen), although obviously that raises future problems. Another is to increase the retirement age (as is happening) and hope people stay fit for longer. Yet another would be to decrease the care available for the elderly, so they died quicker. Hopefully that one isn't happening. Perhaps if everybody got really fat and smoked?
My favourite solution would be to swap some old European people with some orphans from countries with very young populations. So countries where there aren't very many older people (due to war/disease/etc) but a lot of orphans would get experienced child-carers, and countries with an aging population could adopt and educate a load more young citizens. Win/win! :P
My mother is Catholic, and she CAN'T have any more kids. Well, she can, but she'll die in the process. It makes me feel guilty because it was giving birth to me (as well as a few illness-caused complications) that did it. And now you're saying that she has to have more kids so we can outbreed the Muslims?
I've seen the effects of having loads of kids. My Catholic dad has nine older siblings, and he's had to claw his way up because of the utter poverty that they lived in. And now you're saying you want every Catholic family to be like that?
On behalf of my parents, SHUT UP!
Saying "The world is overpopulated enough" is just stating a fact.
As the Christian nations have not taken over the world (completely) yet, I don't think the Muslim nations will either. Neither group play sufficiently well together to unite and take over the world. Just look at the squabble between Baptists and Catholics, between Sunni and Shia Muslims.
As I have never been schooled in the Catholic faith, I can't be re-schooled in it.

According to the current Code of Canon Law (available at http://www.vatican.va/archive/ ):
_Abortion_ is a mortal sin (there are still arguments that medically-necessary abortions should be considered separately).
_Natural family planning_ is permitted, and encouraged.
Birth control itself is not the problem, but particular methods of it. Abortion-as-birth-control is unacceptable, but beyond that there are arguments as to where to draw the dividing lines. Cardinal Martini of Milan argues that the use of condoms is justified to prevent transmission of HIV or other STDs, and has been advocating for a clarification of Humanae Vitae.
And I know if no Catholic priest or bishop who would say that there should be a great increase in the world population. They all know what that would lead to.
Confused?
