If "good" exists, then something must conceivably exist that is "not good". If we know that a murderous, genocidal, maniac is not a good person, then there must be someone or something that is good.
If God orders the mass killing of hundreds of men, women, and children, does this, by itself, necessarily mean that God is a murderous, genocidal, maniac? I don't see how it follows.

Irony meters redlining...core reaching critical mass...anger reactor about to explode...
What. The. FUCK. WTF?
yes, of course it follows you stupid bastard. If you view of morality is this weak, you need to die NOW.
Don't forget that for a lot of these people, the only reason for being good is that God will punish them if they're not.
It therefore follows that, since God isn't going to punish himself for being evil, he doesn't have to be good...
It's like they took some sort of robot, forced it to watch twelve hours of The Superfriends, hit it in the head a few times with a baseball bat, then ordered it to try and imitate human logic
How can someone called 'worldview' of al lthings never have heard of the chain of command.
Stalin, Hitler, Milosevic, Hussein, Pot etc are all innocent right?
He's probably just worried Rumsfeld might be held culpable for Abu Gharaib.
Truly, not enough chlorine in the genepool.
A lot of these religious people are willing to say and/or believe ANYTHING rather than admit that their God is a "murderous, genocidal, maniac." How sad to have to grasp a fairy tale with all one's might to make it through life.
It might be my mistake, but didn't Hitler "order the mass killing of hundreds of men, women, and children" and have we not decided that makes him a "murderous, genocidal, maniac"? And yes, I realize it was more than that, but I believe the point stands.
(*blink, blink*) I'll be darned. He raises one of the most glaringly obvious points against the plausibility of the Judeo-Christian-Islamic deity (and most other deities ever conceived, for that matter), and he actually fails to recognize it for what it is -- in fact, denies it outright.
That's like looking at an elephant, describing it in perfect detail in terms of size, weight, color, taxonomy, and so forth, and then concluding with all seriousness that it is of course not an elephant, but a jar of strawberry jam.
HOW on Earth do people like this function in society without hurting themselves and/or others? HOW?
~David D.G.
is this a case of not only building castles in the air, but also living in them?
and David - you, sir, are the man. The strawberry elephant analogy stands!
<<< God can void his own morals because he's God, even if it seems hypocritcal it's not because he's God and God can do whatever he wants cause he's God. Where's the confusion? >>>
I can't tell whether you're being serious or not. In case you are, doing something you're telling others not to do is pretty much the textbook definition of hypocrisy.
NKF quotes "Yes! That is what I'm talking about!
If I pay a hitman to kill someone it's not as if I am morally culpable. I mean I ordered the crime, sure. But that doesn't mean I'm a criminal.
Right. Right? "
Haven't you all paid your taxes this year? So haven't you paid the hitman (The US Army/Marines) to go kill someone? So aren't you each responsible for the deaths of every innocent IRAQii? So doesn't that mean the blood of an innocent 5 year child is on your hands right now? Well then, you should be in prison getting ass raped for the next 3 consecutive life terms.
If God orders the mass killing of hundreds of men, women, and children, does this, by itself, necessarily mean that God is a murderous, genocidal, maniac? I don't see how it follows."
OF COURSE IT FOLLOWS YOU WORTHLESS FUNDAMENTALIST MORON!
I should take up heavy drinking instead of reading FSTDT. Kills less brain cells.
Seriously, what the fuck? I always knew these people were crazy, but this just takes all.
"If God orders the mass killing of hundreds of men, women, and children, does this, by itself, necessarily mean that God is a murderous, genocidal, maniac?"
Er, well yes it does actually.
Confused?
