It's time to stomp out atheists in America. The majority of Americans would love to see atheists kicked out of America. If you don't believe in God, then get out of this country.
The United States is based on having freedom of religion, speech, etc., which means you can believe in God any way you want (Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, etc.), but you must believe.
I don't recall freedom of religion meaning no religion. Our currency even says, ''In God We Trust." So, to all the atheists in America: Get off of our country.
People like Gail Pepin (The Chronicle, Oct. 11) have caused the ruin of this great nation by taking prayer out of our schools and being able to practice what can only be called evil. I don't care if she has never committed a crime, she is the reason crime is rampant.
To The Chronicle, please do not give atheists a voice. You do more harm than good.

I thought atheism is a religion? I can't keep up, I just can't.
Somebody needs a hug!
1 empirical evidence the majority of Americans want to kick out atheists?
2 "you can believe in God any way you want (Baptist, Catholic, Methodists, ect)" Can't help but noticed you mentioned only different sects of Christianity, what about non-Christian religious people or do you count them as atheists too?
3 What part of Freedom of Religion don't you understand? Oh I see the part about being free not to hold any religious beliefs.
4 "In God We Trust" was added in the 1950's during the cold war, it did not appear before that nor is the phrase found in our founding documents
5 The court case that removed prayer from schools was Schempp vs Abington Township, BTW Mr Schempp was a Unitarian not an atheist.
6 "Don't give atheists a voice" Damn that freedom of the press!
I don't care if she has never committed a crime, she is the reason crime is rampant. By that logic, you could say, "I don't care if heterosexual couples aren't gay, they are the ones breeding homosexuals! Don't let heterosexuals breed! They do more harm than good!"
"The United States is based on having freedom of religion, speech, etc., which means you can believe in God any way you want (Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, etc.), but you must believe."
I just love this argument. You must believe!
The other comments on that page are just as bad. The second one basically says that it's sad that atheists are being discriminated against by Christians, so they should all become Christians so the discrimination will stop.
"It's not our fault that we hate, demonize, and persecute people, it's the fault of the people that we hate, demonize, and persecute for even existing! If they didn't exist, we wouldn't attack them! Simple as that!"
I don't recall deism being a religion so according to you if the same founding fathers, who wrote that, were alive today we should kick them out of the country. Good job, it's only because of their rationality that a religion which they thought were the words of a demon could grow to have so much power in this country and to repay them you would redefine their words so you can abuse others.
Nobody has taken prayer out of schools. They've just stopped people from using school employees and school property to conduct religious services. Students are still free to go off by themselves and pray all they want, subject to the school's attendance rules, as long as they don't try to organise prayer services.
People who want school prayer don't really want their own kids to pray - they can do that at home. What they really want is the power to make everyone else's kids pray.
Uh, Gloria...
The Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment recognizes the right of every person to freely chose his own course with regard to religion, free of any compulsion from the State. Of necessity, such freedom includes the right to come to one's own conclusions regarding belief. Such conclusions may well include not believing AT ALL. (How the hell can a government dictate what to believe, anyway? The most it could do would be to require you to PRETEND to believe.)
The Free Exercise Clause “has never meant that a majority could use the machinery of the State to practice its beliefs.” - Abington Township v Schempp (1963)
Sadly, I live in the Central Sevannah River Area (CSRA) where the Augusta Chronicle is located. I can personally attest to the fact that this area is LOADED with dip-shit crazies such as Gloria and the fact that letters to the Chronicle like the one Gloria wrote is actually sickeningly common.
*sigh* God, I want so badly to move back to Wisconsin. =(
That's just all kinds of fucked up, isn't it? "Freedom of religion" meaning you are forced to believe in God? "Freedom of speech" meaning that outlets for ideas and thoughts should deny access to a large portion of the nation? Atheists being the cause of crime, even though they have never committed a crime?
Well, "Wendy," perhaps you should shift the plug of Red Man to the other cheek before you fire up your word-typer-upper and fire off another gem to the newspaper. Wouldn't want any chaw-drippin's to get on the paper now, would we?

Your a shamed example to your breeding as to how little you know about the Constitution and the Treaty of Tripoli
"I don't recall freedom of religion meaning no religion. Our currency even says, ''In God We Trust." So, to all the atheists in America: Get off of our country."
Two points. First it means freedom to choose relegion, or to be free from it. Second. In God we Trust is a recent motto, so fuck you.

If you pay taxes to it then it should be free from relegion to allow people of all faiths or none at all to contribute. Thats what it means idiot. But okay, lets allow prayer in our schools. Tell you what We'll recite prayer five times aday to Allah, or even recite Mass how does that grab yah.
"To The Chronicle, please do not give atheists a voice. You do more harm than good."
Please deny people their constituonal right to freedom of speech, based on race, creed and relegion. In short lets just burn the constitution altogether
IIRC, under Indonesian law each citizen must identify themselves as belonging to one of short list of recognised religions -- I think it's Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism and maybe Judaism as well.
When Indonesia annexed West Papua (Irian Jaya), officials had to figure out what to do with the native people who worshiped nature spirits. They put them on the books as Hindus because Hinduism is polytheistic religion and the only recognised faith that even vaguely resembled the Papuans' beliefs. Which is the kind of nonsense you get when your force people to declare adherence to a religion.
I see a lot of comments about In God Wet Rust on our money.
What cost $100 in 1800 would cost $157.82 in 1955.
Also, if you were to buy exactly the same products in 1955 and 1800, they would cost you $100 and $63.36 respectively.
That was when we didn't trust anything but gold and silver.
What cost $100 in 1955 would cost $687.04 in 2005.
Also, if you were to buy exactly the same products in 2005 and 1955, they would cost you $100 and $14.56 respectively.
Looks to me like we ought to quit trusting in God and go back to money that was worth something.
Well, if we are to believe what she says, and of course, we SHOULDN'T, then believing in the Flying Spaghetti Monster is just fine. You know, the Pastafarians?

Bullshit. If you don't recognize my right to freedom of religion and freedom FROM religion, then YOU can get the fuck out of my country, dickhead.
BlueLithium:
Sounds great except for two things: the UK loves spying on its people, and do you really want a collection of mixed nuts controlling two-fifths of the nuclear weapons in the world?
I'd be tempted to take you up on it except for that second point... after all, all y'all are a little afraid of us at this point, and I can't really blame you. But what if all the people keeping the lid on the nutjobs decided to leave?
Atheism is a lack of religion, which still falls under the freedom of religion since that freedom includes not having something in the first place. You don't want to publish something? You don't have to. Don't want to meet with a group? Don't have to. Don't want to give public speeches? Noone makes you. Don't want to worship anything? Noone is making you.
And besides, if you can't coexist, then get out. We don't need any more hate.
"...but you must believe."
Says who, you moron? Atheists have as much right to believe there is no god as you have to believe whatever particular brand of garbage floats your boat.
"...which means you can believe in God any way you want (Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, etc.), but you must believe."
Hahahahahahahaha! What utter baloney! You fail constitution forever. Think a minute, Wendy. If it doesn't matter HOW you believe, then it cannot possibly matter IF you believe. And if we "must" believe, then where did all these atheists come from?
You claim Pepin is evil, and you "don't care if she has never committed a crime". I'm sure she will be glad to have you explain that to her when she sues you. Y'see, we CARE about the difference between criminals and non-criminals. But we do not prosecute thought crimes. This is not yet the dystopian "brave new world".
Confused?
