The hitch is that children actually are somewhat easily swayed when it comes to sex, but women are not, at least not more than men. That and children's immature bodies leading to physiological harm when older people have sex with them.

What principles of equal rights? There is no “right to have sex”, there is only “right to decide what happens to your own body”, and children can't give informed consent.
What about the illogical paternal instincts among men? Most fathers would probably want to kill anyone molesting their children.

Laws against defecating wherever you feel like it also conflict with biology. Your intestines are screaming "do it now!" but everyone understands that the rules are in place for a reason and that we can't just do anything we feel like because biology says so. While I think society is still too puritanical about the human body I don't think the age of consent is anything we should abolish. The age number may be arbitrary but it's necessary and until we can read minds and know for certain how mentally mature (to go along with their physical maturity) someone is, it's the best we can do.

That's the decision making center and gives the ability to predict future consequences based on a person's own actions. Say, for example, sex and the possibility of STD's, pregnancy, emotional ties, etc that come along with the decision to have sex.
Age of consent will vary from culture to culture but you'll notice that most are in the range of 16 and up. That's because young children literally can not comprehend what sex means beyond the mechanical.

I've met a number of men who suffer from illogical paternal instincts of their own. The idea of Dad taking a shotgun to anyone who molests his child is a cliché for a reason.

In the US, there's never been a time in history when child brides were common or deemed acceptable. Average age of marriage for females was 20-22 even in our earliest history. 21.5 or 22.5, IIRC, throughout the nineteenth century. Very young brides were rare, and when one did marry very young (meaning 15 or so), it was to someone near her own age, not to a pedophile like you. Girls didn't even hit puberty until 15-17 or older back then, FFS. So much for history and biology.
As far as equal rights are concerned, low ages of consent in some states were enacted partly to protect men from prosecution; children's rights had nothing to do with it.
What denial? To be repulsed and to enact laws that prevent girls in our society from being forced and/or coerced into bondage with pedophiles, as they are still in some places in the world, is nothing even remotely similar to denial.
