And unless you know a large random sample of gay guys that can be assumed to represent the entire spectrum of gay guys, I don't think you should judge on that.

Well, given that gay people are quite a minority it's far more likely that you know, or have met, more straight people that are "quite perverted" than the number of gay people you know.

I am a bisexual girl simply because I find so many people (both male and female) sexually attractive in some way.
And, besides- there is a lot to be said for wearing a rubber catsuit with a severe corset while wearing a pair of thigh-high stretch PVC ballet boots, being tied up and taken from behind doggy style.
I guarantee that when I die and my family goes through my "special closet", there is going to be a whole LOT of WTF moments- I'm a dedicated pervert.
We can prove via MRI that the brains of gay males react to sexual stimuli almost exactly to the brains of straight females (which is dissimilar to straight males). And we're talking primitive areas of the brain, not the parts associated with cognitive thought.
We have also isolated genes that make people predisposed to being gay, not that this is the only way it happens.

False dichotomy here, folks. Sexuality is not so simple as to be a matter of personal choice versus genetics--there is, quite obviously and among other possibilities, environmental factors, especially those occurring during childhood. This is a particularly satisfying view in that it unifies all sexual preferences in one model.

It may or may not be a choice--I don't know. But your conclusion does not follow from your argument. You could definitely choose something without choosing the side-effects. Moreover, people make poor choices or self-destructive ones quite often (e.g., drug abuse).
Just like how everyone is born liking asparagus, the color blue, classical music, and the smell of bubblegum. These are the things I like, and because I'm normal, every other normal person should like these things, too. If they don't, they consciously chose not to.

Also, I find it hard to believe anyone would choose to live a lifestyle where they are ridiculed, beaten and possibly killed for being attracted to the same sex. Who would want to CHOOSE to live like that?

If 10% of the population were perverted, we couldn't even go out to pick a shopping bag. And just answer a question. If you, in principle, don't feel by instinct attraction to another person, the disadvantages of the choice outweight, socially and naturally(no way to reproduce through homosexual sex), the possible advantages and you get no clear benefit, why would people "choose" such a nonsense?.

@ #492830: His point was that there is such a social stigma on homosexuality that he himself is convinced of his own inferiority just for not "choosing" to be straight, to the extent that he even hates himself for something that, if he can change at all, would be difficult and possibly damaging psychologically. The idea that people make self-destructive choices isn't the issue, because the destructive aspects only result from pursuing a pleasure beyond the threshold of safety (such as your example of drug abuse). This is not the same thing, in that it is simply a trade off for in desire for the same pleasure, but focused on different target. The pleasure would be the same, so there is no objective reason why would prefer homosexuality over heterosexuality or vice versa, if they were in fact choices. And this brings us to the rampant homophobia in society that makes it so that, if homosexuality were indeed a choice, it would only be a viable choice for those who do not mind being seen and treated as less than human for aiming one's lust at the wrong targets.
Yes, you can choose something without choosing the side-effects for it...but when you can change your choice at any point in time (hypothetically), when you become aware of the consequences, you should, if you have your sense about you, change your decision if the costs outweigh the benefits. Seeing as how homosexuality is so socially disadvantageous, there are very few reasons why anyone would actively wish to remain homosexual if they were given a choice (at least our current cultural climate). Yet, since change is rare, even despite the discrimination, contempt, and feelings of worthlessness instilled into you by family and friends, the choice at work in these matters is a little less significant than people tend to argue it to be.

Yes, just like I choose to have crushes on hot guys. I choose to act like an idiot around them even when I don't want to. I choose to have crushes on beautiful male celebrities, even though there are female celebrities who are beautiful as well. Some other women choose to fall in love with backstabbing scoundrels even when they know that they're bad. We must be quite masochistic, then. But hey, that's okay, at least we're straight!
Yes, all homosexuals just randomly wake up in the morning and decide that they want to be masochists. That they want to be persecuted for not being "normal." That they have to be ashamed and hide what they do, while they watch straight couples do the same thing in public and in the media. That they have to suffer for no reason.
And last time I checked, homosexuals weren't the ones who were interested in your love life. You and your ilk are the ones who keep harping on theirs, or what you think theirs are like. Who are the perverts, then?
I'd like to hear how these people make this "choice", when, where and how? Do they really reach a crossroads in their life when they say "Hmm, should I be attracted to the same sex, the opposite sex or both? On what basis shall I arrive at my final decision? I know, I shall consult the Good Book for my answers..." Now that IS a perverted way of making decisions about your sexuality.
