[This is from a thread discussing whether there is such a thing as Christian rock and whether to call it Christian rock or X-tian rock.]
"I don't think Christ and rock and roll should be put together. Where do you think they got the title? THe guy that invented it called it that because he heard postitutes use it.
Rock em' and Roll em'. Get it?"

From Wikipedia :
Rocking was a term first used by gospel singers in the American South to mean something akin to spiritual rapture. A double, ironic, meaning came to popular awareness in 1947 in blues artist Roy Brown's song "Good Rocking Tonight" (also covered the next year by Wynonie Harris in an even wilder version), in which "rocking" was ostensibly about dancing but was in fact a thinly-veiled allusion to sex.
Ah, sweet irony. The truth is stranger than fiction.
I actually agree with this fundie. Because the two suck together. If you want christianity, go to church. If you want rock and roll, listen to AC/DC.

See Julian! I can say GOOD things about Austrailia too! I could just as easily mentioned Aerosmith.
There are no prostitues in this story man. And they go together. Music and God have had a very close connection and rock-and-roll purely speaking is MUSIC. Please, if you want to spread the Gospel, perfect, but be it the Gospel, please, not social stereotypes.
Music and God have had a very close connection and rock-and-roll purely speaking is MUSIC.
From what I understand, a lot of the jazz from the 1930s and 1940s had their roots in the spirituals that African-Americans used to sing. Jazz, spirituals, and other forms of music were merged with the new types of guitar to form the prototype version of rock & roll.
WTF?
Now, "jazz" could well have come from prostitution, as it was probably played in brothels back in the early 20th century, and one theory is that the word was slang for sexual intercourse. But rock n' roll? Give me a fucking break.
The term "Rock and Roll" was coined by Cleveland radio DJ Alan Freed, who made it up on the spot one night on the radio. The term "Roll" had long been used by musicians in the same way "jam" is, and high-energy music had been referred to as "rock" for some time before this. Freed just put the two words together.
And as for Christ and music? The Bible itself contains many passages instructing people to worship and praise God through music and dance, but no where does it specify the type of music. Half the Psalms are intended to be sung, for God's sake.
These people are just threatened by anything that is outside their narrow, person perception of what is and is not "godly."
Although Christian rock does suck.
From further down in that same thread:
"XTian School: A School or university which claims to be Christian but either does not have Christian standards or had them at one point, but is now abandoning them. For example: Yale University. There is another one in Greenvile, SC, but it's name escapes me at the moment ... Bob something..."
Not even good old Bob Jones University is Christian enough for the folks over at teens-4-christ! Damn.
"mad dog: "I could just as easily mentioned Aerosmith."
Except then, you would have been wrong. :-p
I'm from America, but let's face it: Aerosmith blows."
I only said it to annoy Julian. Besides, there are 1000 bands from the USA I like better than that band with a 'Dude who looks like a lady'. Take Pantera for example.
Sandman, that made me laugh out loud.
And mad dog, don't be using AC/DC and Aerosmith in the same sentence. Just don't. (ooops, except I just did. But that was just to tell you not to, so it doesn't count)
And, again, Hank Hill put it best - you're not making Christianity better, you're just making rock music worse.
Actually, 'rock'n'roll' was a slang for having sex, but no-one uses it anymore (except as for a play on the music... kind of life's circle). If the roots of the expression have any relevance today, how about you stop calling homosexuals for 'cigaretts'.
C'mon, Stryper is good... for a Christian 'metal'-band. But how about Nick Cave and Bob Dylan? Or all those Witchfinder-themed doom metal-songs?
Confused?
