I'm a Physics major at the University of Arkansas, and I first obtained your series of video tapes through our local ABS campus ministry. As a future member of the scientific community, I found it quite overwhelming to stand up for my faith in front of such vehement professors and students totally sold on evolution, but I've found that I can have the knowledge to counter them. I've been challenged to learn as much about that as my other studies. I have also seen my two dearest friends come to be bold about their faith as well.

Alas, this one seems to be lost. She noted that she's been challenged to learn, and it seems there are generally two outcomes from that.
1) Realize how silly they've been (rare, but worthy of celebration)
2) Reflexively argue that their god did it all, despite any evidence to the contrary.
Unfortunately, it looks like she took the wrong path.
And when they fail your ass, it will because they're persecuting your beliefs right.
The worst part about this is that schools are backing down because they don't want to be seen as intolerant.
Jennifer, you seem an intelligent, mild woman, with an education surpassing that of the average fundie (hardly an impressive feat, but still.) Why is it that you cannot at least try to examine the evidence there is for evolution? As a physics major, would you not accept a theory of quantum gravity, or cosmic strings if there were new, strong evidence for them? Do you not know the tenets of Newtonian physics and Einstein's Relativity, and trust them to be consistent based off of the evidence that you can observe?
Before you dismiss evolution as false, why not at least examine it. Why not judge its evidences (and trust me, they are quite expansive) for yourself, as I'm sure you have other, more mathematical formulae? Are you really that afraid that the facts will corrupt your faith?
Why would a physics major care one bit about evolution and biology?
Also, replace 'bold' with 'deluded' and the picture is much clearer.
Er... Why are you discussing biology as a physics major. Hell as a Human Geneticist I have no fucking clue about quantum physics. I can't go around saying "well, I too am a scientist but I think quantum is crap since I have no idea how it works!"
And you probably don't have the knowledge to counter someone in the science of evolution. Remember evolution is a monsterous field of science. Indeed it is "all of biology" you are deciding to wage war on. A very silly proposition.
And to be fair your certainty of the non presence of evolution will write off your ability to be a good scientist because you are judging theories by hearsay and gossip not by evidence. The entire point of the theory of evolution is that its so elegant, not the clumsy hackneyed phrase of survival of the fittest that people love to use.
Faith and Knowlege!
Or should that be Faith versus Knowledge?
Men had faith in the Titanic, that is never would sink...
Men had faith in Hydrogen in the Hindenburg...
Men had faith in Jesus's promise that he would return before some of those there would have died... He didn't, you know. Your own precious bible tells you this, and Knowledge tells you that he didn't return.
I'll stick to Knowledge - Scientia in Latin, btw.
You stick to your faith if you wish, and end up thick as two short planks in utter denial of reality. It's your choice.
Jennifer M. is, quite obviously, a fictional character created to pad out CSEs testimonials. You know CSE, constantly lying for Jebus.
As a University of Arkansas student, let me please please please say that this moron in no way shape or form represents any of us.
(except maybe the campus fundie)
I thought people actually went to college to learn something, but hey, Arkansas... "Standing up for your faith" apparently means going to a class and telling the professor that you don't believe him and you have no intention of learning what he has to say. The appropriate response to that would be (1) a reprimand on the spot for discourtesy to the professor, (2) a failing grade in that class, (3) you are forced to change majors because that class was required, and (4) you get busted down to community college where you learn to weave baskets.
Campus ministry? Campus is for learning new stuff, ministry is for reiterating old stuff.
ABS? Anti-lock braking system? Animal behavior society? Absinthe?
Faith has little or nothing to do with the scientific community, dearie. It ought to be overwhelming to do something so stupid.
Teachers have to be "totally sold" on basic tenets of science, dolt, or they are completely useless.
What "knowledge" would that be? Cretinism? "Intelligent" design? Cdesign proponentsists*? Pandas and Stupidity?
If you DO have knowledge, where were you when Mike Behe needed you in the Kitzmiller vs Dover trial?
You've destroyed you friends' academic careers, as well as your own? Well, with friends like you, who needs enemies?
I'm with Kanna; those are well-reasoned, proportionate responses to this idiocy.
*According to Urban Dictionary: "Used to refer to creationist dumbfucks who are all too generally confused by science theology or even common sense."
“I'm a Physics major at the University of Arkansas, and I first obtained your series of video tapes through our local ABS campus ministry.”
You should get your money back for them.
I know they were free, but you still need to get your money back.
“As a future member of the scientific community,”
Wait, a physics major considers themself a FUTURE member of science?
Really?
I went to sub school and started calling myself a submariner beffore i even saw a sub.
“I found it quite overwhelming to stand up for my faith in front of such vehement professors and students totally sold on evolution,”
Physics classes arguing about evolution?
OOooooh, you’re on of those that lists ‘the big bang’ as part of evolution.
Sit down, dear.
“but I've found that I can have the knowledge to counter them.”
Counter? Or dismiss?
“I've been challenged to learn as much about that as my other studies.”
In the Physics pipeline? Still having a hard time with that…
“I have also seen my two dearest friends come to be bold about their faith as well.”
Bold? You mean being close-minded, I bet. And obnoxious about it.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
