If we only accept the rather obvious idea of an independent Self or Subject ...nothing is more simple than reincarnation!!!!

You'd need an independent body, with an independent liver and heart and lungs, etc. Where do you store all that while you're alive, so you can use it while your original body crumbles to dust?
@Kanna: you store them in carefully sealed jars, so they can be reunited with you mummified body in the next life, of course. Make sure you are richly attired and possessed of various useful items in commerce, not to mention your servants, in either corporeal or representational form (what fun it must be to know that your reward in the next life is to be a servant again!).
My favorite version is that of the Wari, who were buried in fetal position, presumably so they would not require a spiritual cesarean.
If only it were true...
Being a spiritual person who feels the spiritual is real and the soul and reincarnation exists, I have no problem with this quote. Should we be quoting this guy if he says something really stupid and frummy? This just sounds like "Garden Variety Spiritual Beliefs" stuff.
I don't see how this is "Fundie". Religious, yes but "Fundie"?
@SpukiKitty
Christians generally believe in the reincarnation of Jesus. This guy seems to think that it's an easy trick, perhaps available to all, as he emphasizes the "rather obvious" strange notion, concluding with the "simple" trick of reincarnation.
Ummm...What? Seriously, this makes zero sense. An independent self equals reincarnation because?....yeah. It's like saying "If we can only accept the rather obvious idea of quantum string theory....nothing is more simple then anal sex!!!!" Seriously the two have absolutely nothing to do with one another, and making the leap from one to the other without explaination is just confussing and bizzare.
@SpukiKitty
the rather obvious idea of an independent Self or Subject
It's that part. There's no "obvious" higher you that resides in another plane of existence. He's calling something for which there is no evidence a foregone conclusion and then using that to argue for something else for which there is no evidence. It's the equivalent of saying "if we only accept the rather obvious idea of the lost continent of Mu then nothing is more simple than a race of advanced merpeople living at the bottom of the ocean" .
Like Christianity, the only obvious thing about it is how many of it's supporters CLAIM and INSTILL on others the idea, a mantra actually, that it's obvious. Another great repeating smack down in debates and the Atheist Experience shows calls when they're asked to point out these obvious evidence particulars.
Either the "well it's obvious" is just restated or "How else could it be?" canard is applied, to which they dismiss all sciences or other religions beliefs with "That's just stupid" or "you can't really believe that" or "I don't have to look into it, I science, I know stuff, yer stupid".
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
