Regarding an article stating that 1/3 of Russians believe that the Sun revolces around the Earth:
"It doesn't say the EARTH STOPPED SPINNING! Can you imagine what the oceans would have done were the earth to suddenly stop then restart? Can you say SLOSH? Get your theology straight people. I could care less what atheist science rambles on about, let God be true, but every man a liar - Romans 3:4
Why is Polaris always dead center up north if our axis is tilted? Where are the 1056 mph winds if the earth is spinning so fast??? Don't even start by telling me the spinning earth drags the atmosphere along with it, 'cause I don't buy it. I don't see any giant fan blades growing out of the ground to help out with this. If the earth was spinning that fast there should be F6 tornado speed winds, 24 hours a day, along the equator, F5 everywhere else. The weather was pretty nice where I live, today. Just a nice gently north western breese. Don't know about the ol' USA. I did hear things are a bit uncomfortable over there these days."

Okay, could someone please enlighten me here? -What's with this earth- centric shit? does it say something about it in the babble or something? Why do they come up with these painfully stupid refutations??
Do these people also believe that Moon is made of cheese?
Seems that it's not only a percentage of Russians who think the sun orbits the earth.
...oh, and four words: Yuri Gagarin. Neil Armstrong.
Looking at the discussion that quote came from, this Petezzzz guy seems to be considered a nutcase even by other members of Rapture Ready.
Also, geometry and gravity seem to be completely new concepts for this idiot.
"Why is Polaris always dead center up north if our axis is tilted"?
Oy. It is way too early in the morning for stupidity of this caliber. Looks like someone missed the memo that, contrary to popular cartography, "north" does not equal "up".
"Why is Polaris always dead center up north if our axis is tilted?"
Because it is tilted in the direction of Polaris, is that too hard to understand?
"Where are the 1056 mph winds if the earth is spinning so fast???"
Well the atmosphere is (as a whole) revolving along with the Earth so...
"Don't even start by telling me the spinning earth drags the atmosphere along with it, 'cause I don't buy it. I don't see any giant fan blades growing out of the ground to help out with this. If the earth was spinning that fast there should be F6 tornado speed winds, 24 hours a day, along the equator, F5 everywhere else."
...Um, ever travelled in a train or plane, or driven a car? Notice how the air inside those vehicles doesn't blow in your face at whatever speed they are travelling at?
It's like that.
Guess what? Polaris wasn't always the North Star. A few thousand years ago, it was Vega, and a couplethree in the future, it'll be something else. That's because the Earth wobbles on its axis. Meanwhile, if it's true 1/3 of all Russians think that, someplace, the ghosts of Yurii Gagarin and Andrei Belyaev are weeping, and the Soviets were right about what would happen ifthe Western devils took their system down.
I've seen a scary influx of geocentrists lately. I suppose if you don't believe anything anyone says, anyway, you are free to make up any ol' "it seems to me" answer. The hubris to think you are so much smarter than the best people who have studied specific sciences for their entire career is laughable.
Well, at least Russia has some excuse for such abominable ignorance: that country went to hell in the Nineties. Of course, last I heard, about an equal number of Americans believe in geocentrism and we have no excuse. It's the 21st century; why do Americans still think the Sun revolves around the Earth? Are there any people who believe this in Sweden?!
"The weather was pretty nice where I live, today. Just a nice gently north western breese. Don't know about the ol' USA."
If ONLY there was some way to know about the weather in far off lands... like maybe if there was something orbiting the Earth that could take photos of the clouds and "beam" the images down to us. Not only would we know what the weather was like, but we could also find out the Earth's true rotational speed too. Maybe someday the Earth Spin Speed Cabal will be broken and the truth will be set free...
Let:
d = density
m = mass
v = volume
d = m/v (m ÷ v)
"An adult human head cut off around vertebra C3, with no hair, weighs somewhere between 4.5 and 5kg, constituting around 8% of the whole body mass." - Danny Yee
The volume of Petezzzz's head is deceptively difficult to calculate. The surface area encloses an almost perfect vacuum, and would, if allowed to collapse, achieve a displacement approaching zero.
Ergo, the density of Petezzzz = approx. 4.5 ÷ (0 (infinitely small, approaching limit zero). As the denominator approaches zero, the density approaches infinity.
In other words Petezzzz, YOU ARE TOO F-ING DENSE TO UNDERSTAND THE EXPLANATION!
How's that for "atheist science", you tit?
Edit: Damn. This web site doesn't do ascii 244.
SLOSH! There! I said it.
What about Joshua and the sun standing still? The planet should have been shrivelled up.
What about the irrefutable knowledge gained during space shots?
In other words, Petezzz is an ignoramus, so deeply engrained in his ignorance that it would be a kind piece of social hygiene to lock him away in some caring institution.
@#1422883
I see what you did there
:-)
@Brendan:
I am not from Sweden, but believe me, we have our fair share of nutters here in Germany, too.
I know someone personally who
- doesn’t believe in the moon landings
- buys into the Maya-2012-thing
- thinks homeopathy is superior to school medicine
- thinks the football World and Euro Cups are just distractions from the governments to get laws through parliaments without the public noticing
- doesn’t believe in “macro evolution” and is convinced the ToE includes abiogenesis
- thinks 9/11 was a CIA op (he even mentioned the “planes were only holograms” bullshit once)
- thinks Osama bin Laden has either been dead for years before the official death OR is still alive
- thinks GWB is part of a secret satanic organization
- has in the past hinted at being at least a Holocaust doubter and anti-Semite (while being a self-declared leftist)
- etc.
The best thing is that he sees himself as a kind of “hard-core atheist” but in the last months he brought up issues that until then I only knew from Chick Tracts and FSTDT, e.g. Allah is some kind of pagan moon god and similar stuff. And then he wondered why I started laughing
And there seem to be enough people like him to produce many books, DVDs and websites for this clientele in German.
So relax, you’re not alone. According to some TV documentaries from the last few years even US-style creationism and ID is getting stronger in Germany (and the rest or Europe). (On the other hand the mainstream churches are losing members as if people couldn’t get out fast enough
)
Thank you for confirming the notion that fundamentalist Christians are the dumbest fucking people on the planet. Whether you choose to accept the evidence is of no consequence. The earth rotates about a tilted axis as it orbits the sun on an elliptical path. That's why we have seasons.
Oh, and for the record, Polaris wasn't always the North Star. It is at the moment.
Fundie science -- Oxymoron
@ Gawd
Also, the saying is: "I couldn't care less". Why can't people get this right? Why don't they realize they're saying the opposite of what they mean?
Gets me too. Lots of Mexican people around here (SoCal) say that;
"I coo' care less, man."
"The driveby las' ni', man? I coo' balieve it!"

@myheadhurts
I don't want to live on this planet anymore.
Careful, m, bordering on Death Cult talk. ;-)
Poe. Poe. Poe. It just ... has to be, because the lowering of my expectations of what "the average person knows" required of this post is unnaceptable.
Note: I know, I know! Appeal to consequences fallacy. *sigh*
He's not even getting the gist of Romans 3:4 right! If you look at the preceding part, Paul was saying that even if contemporary Jews had a deceit problem, that would do nothing on its own to negate the validity of the Torah. In other words, it's not "uphold the validity of the Bible, even if it means denouncing all of humanity as lying", but "don't let the lies of clerics convince you God is a liar". It's simple hyperbole.
Although I do wonder if RTCs think God is capable of using hyperbole...
Why is Polaris always dead center up north if our axis is tilted?
No matter how the axis is pointing, it will always be pointing to something, although not always a visible star. The fact that it happens to be Polaris says nothing about whether the axis is tilted. In fact, the pole is moving. It wasn't pointing to Polaris in ancient Greece, and it won't be in another 1,000 years, either.
Where are the 1056 mph winds if the earth is spinning so fast??? Don't even start by telling me the spinning earth drags the atmosphere along with it, 'cause I don't buy it.
Where are the winds from Hurricane Katrina? By your hypothesis, they should just keep circling the planet and blowing forever.
Even the other RRers call him out on his stupidity... and use so much irony when doing so!
Check out this post from Steve53 (a moderator on RR)!
[I'll take what God says about the matter, thank you.]
Get back to us once you've figured out exactly what was meant by the verses you quoted. image
[But anyway, I didn't post this stuff to debate about it. My mind's already made up.]
There are none so blind as those who will not see.
Yeah, you're totally not guilty of either of those things, Steve53! Now you know what it's like when we try to "debate" you (although Steve53's situation is less frustrating, since Petezzzz doesn't have the power to ban everyone he disagrees with).
> I could care less what atheist science rambles on about, let God be true, but every man a liar - Romans 3:4
Ooh, that sounds like pretty heavy language from Apostle Paul...
D Laurier
So raptards are geocentrists.... why am i not surprized.
If you would actually go to the thread that this quote came from, you would see that that's not the case. Please don't judge an entire group of people based on one person.
@Reynardine:
Actually, there is a South Star. It's called Sigma Octantis, but it's a very dim 5th Magnitude star barely visible to the naked eye.
I think I read somewhere once that Antares was our Southern Star about 24,000 years ago, but I may be mistaken.
@chatvert
"Looks like someone missed the memo that, contrary to popular cartography, "north" does not equal "up"."
Hmm, one of our own commenters missing the point slightly here! North is referred to as "up North" because maps are usually printed with North at the top. It's a common enough expression and not really one I would fault. As for the rest of his geocentric drivel, however... no amount of facepalming can be enough.
Little things like "I could care less" instead of "I couldn't care less don't improve the standard any. 1056mph winds? You should try living where I live, Petezzz. Up North in my homeland, 100mph hurricanes are regarded as a fairly stiff breeze. Oh and we've got giant fan blades around here too, but they're not to move the air in synch with the Earth, they're using the wind to generate elec... oh why am I bothering? Your brain revolces around your arse.
he mentions the sensible answer to his question of the wind, just to say he doesn't buy it. that's a pretty sure indication, to me at least, that it's fake.
If the earth's atmosphere even caught up at 1mph per year due to entrainment, then it would have managed to get right up to speed now seeing as the earth's 6000 years old. It would just have been windy for the first thousand years or so, that probably caused the Flood. You tit!
It pains and confuses me that someone who has a question like "Why is Polaris the north star?" doesn't have enough curiosity or intellect to educate themselves, to look it up and learn from their research.
But I guess someone like Petezzzz is so afraid of science and its "lies" that he doesn't dare venture out of the safety-net of his superstitions and ignorance.
So the stupid isn't just in America?
It seems like being a world power(and while Russian power may have waned, they're still fairly powerful) makes people stupid. Other examples: Germany was fairly powerful before WWI=Nazis come to power.
People think "Yay, I'm a citizen of the Empire! We are the best! We can do no wrong! I don't have to pay attention to the rest of the world, because they don't matter! I don't need any education, I already know everything!"
That's why empires never last. Let's just hope that America's "Fall" is as peaceful, gradual, and cushioned as the British fall was and we can still be a developed and united (and hopefully smarter) first-world nation at the end of our superpower status.
In the thread, Petezzzz debates with a YOUNG EARTH CREATIONIST called ThePenguin who uses surprisingly scientific methods to absolutely trounce him in said debate. When you're being scientifically trounced by a YEC, you need help.
I could care less what atheist science rambles on about
How about basic grammar? Is that atheist science as well? I ask, because according to what you wrote, you actually do care some (or else, you wouldn't be able to care less).
Why is Polaris always dead center up north if our axis is tilted?
I honestly don't know, but I'd guess it's because the axis is tilted towards Polaris.
I don't see any giant fan blades growing out of the ground to help out with this.
I know there's one in the Bermuda Triangle, plus another in Antarctica. I'm not sure where the rest are, as it's a closely guarded secret by the Illuminati and the Evil Atheist Conspiracy, in conjunction with the Gay Agenda.
Petezzz is awesome. He trolled those fundie bitches. Its hilarious to watch people who don't believe in evolution, think the earth is 6000 years old; try to prove him wrong using science. The sad part is the fundies saying, "we're not heliocentrist here", and at the end threating to ban him. So you believe one stupid thing but not another? Petezzz clearly didn't use enough animated smiley faces to use his argument.
@Brendan Rizzo: I'm not sure if you read comments to the 3rd page, but if you're interested in geocentrism outside America, go to Youtube and look up Andromedaswake's set of videos, "redsky vs reality". It's basically a take down of 2 British geocentrists, showing that even Europe can have crazies.
This belief is especially baffling, as we can and have went into space and watched the earth spinning. Do they think every astronaut/cosmonaut is lieing? Every single one of those photos and videos are perfectly faked, even the ones that were released prior to us being able to fake things like that?
#1422858
Looking at the discussion that quote came from, this Petezzzz guy seems to be considered a nutcase even by other members of Rapture Ready.
What those clowns don't realize, is that even if this guy is a Poe, all he's doing is he's taking their attitude of the "bible/god is right, fuck science" to the logical conclusion.
His idiotic view is the one that can be backed up by bible verses, not their view, which for once is based on reality.
Why is Polaris always dead center up north if our axis is tilted?
The earth's axis lines up with the pole star. It's tilt has nothing to do with it.
Where are the 1056 mph winds if the earth is spinning so fast???
The atmosphere spins along with the rest of earth, so no 1000mph storms.
Don't even start by telling me the spinning earth drags the atmosphere along with it, 'cause I don't buy it.
REALITY IS UNREALISTIC!
@whatever: Lol, forgive me, it was about seven in the morning when I saw that and full Pedant Mode kicked in. (I am not at my best regarding idiomatic language before I've had my tea.) Still, given the rest of this guy's rather tenuous grasp on science, I'm not inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt. About anything. He could say the sky was blue and I'd still look out the window to check. Then again, he'd also cite that as evidence we're not really spinning because then the sky would look like one of those time-lapse photographs of the night sky ALL THE TIME.
Still, for the sake of my sanity, I hope it's a poe.
@chatvert
Sorry, I was being irritable too!
For some reason the fundy view of science and astronomy is far more irritating to me than rapture crap or hateful misogyny or homophobia. Probably because I studied science subjects at school, and I can't understand how people can be so stubborn as to reject so much basic common knowledge.
@ The Reasonator:
Not gonna happen, my friend. Britain's fall from superpower status wasn't very peaceful either; it took a goddamned war. Secondly, sure, British people were assholes when their Empire was at its height, but at least they accepted science and weren't Young Earth Creationists. Americans are beyond saving, in my view. Considering the Teabaggers get elected by popular vote into the legislature time and time again, the electorate is incurably stupid. Nothing less than a complete overhaul of the Constitution could drag America, kicking and screaming, into sanity.
@ Brenda Rizzo:
I live in the US and sadly, I agree with you. Sanity and good sense will have to be forced upon conservatives, who abandoned both long ago.
That's what happens when you check your brain at the door of your church.
"Why is Polaris always dead center up north if our axis is tilted?"
It isn't. It just seems that way for us because it's been the pole star for the last 1000 years or so. For the ancient Egyptians, the pole star was Vega. Because at that time, Vega was the due-north, dead-center spot in the sky.
Ever notice when you're driving a car or flying in a plane and so long as there isn't a window open you don't feel so much as a tickle of air resistance?
Or that you can flip a coin in moving vehicles and it doesn't fly immediately behind you?
Same deal. Pressure within a closed body remains constant unless something within the enclosure itself causes it to change. For an object as large as a planet the same measure of centrifugal force that keeps water in a spinning bucket would likely require energy to a degree that would make my head and most calculators catch fire to work out into comprehensible numbers.
Polaris, the north star, is always in the same location because it is directly in line with our axial tilt - at least for the next several thousand years, when Vega will take that role - which is a tilt relative to our orbit of the sun not to compass and map directions.
The Earth rotates and revolves, it just doesn't revolve around you and your beliefs.

"It doesn't say the EARTH STOPPED SPINNING! Can you imagine what the oceans would have done were the earth to suddenly stop then restart? Can you say SLOSH?"
It takes the Earth a year (or 365 days) to travel around the sun with a speed of about 66,600 mph. If the roles were reversed and the sun had to go around the Earth within a day, it would travel 365 times faster, at about 24,209,000 mph. Guess what would happen to the sun's atmosphere if it were to stop suddenly? Can you say FFFOOMP?
"Why is Polaris always dead center up north if our axis is tilted?"
Because the 'tilt' refers to the angle between Earth's axis of spin and its orbit. It still points at Polaris, you big dummy.

With your grasp on physics, I'm surprised you haven't tried to step off a fast-moving train so far.
"what atheist science rambles on about, let God be true, but every man a liar"
Except that Romans was too, written by humans, very ignorant about the natural world. Science is also not about rambling, unlike your arguments. At least you're admitting to be one of the liars. And well, science doesn't necessarily equate atheism, although it certainly provided them with enough knowledge to refute your straw men and human-centric cosmology fantasies.
