We were at my daughter's school concert and all the kids were up front singing, and my 3 year old pointed to a spot (up front) and said, "There is Jesus." My husband and I just looked at eachother. We asked a few times and he kept pointing to the same spot and said the same thing. It was like he was kind of annoyed that we couldn't see what he was seeing. Then my son looked up to the ceiling and tracked something across the whole thing. I asked where Jesus was and he said ,"He went Bubbye."

He also told us that Jesus gave him a hug and kiss the night before when he was in bed. What do you think??!!

When I was about four I would tell my mother the traffic light was green and that she could go when it was really red. She thought I was color blind at first and later thought I was just making the whole thing up for no reason whatsoever. However, I remember a few of these incidents and I remember what was going through my mind at the time. What actually ended up happening is that I could see a sliver of the green light for the opposing traffic and, wanting attention, I came up with this game where I wanted to lure my mother deeply into it and then reveal that it was green on the other side of the box (basically getting her to be so sure that it wasn't green and then proving her wrong because I never said which light was green). However, whenever the light changed, the game would end so I never really got to lure her in the way I wanted to and her making a big deal about the color blindness threw me off when it first started so I just kind of went with it (that continued outside of the car so it made it seem like the reveal was a bigger deal). She never really understood the nature of it all until I got older and was able to explain it to her.

The point of all this being is that kids do stuff like that. He either has an active imagination or picked up on how important you make this idea of Jesus so he used it as a tool to get attention. Your reaction to him afterwards no doubt served to reward that and will likely result in him trying it (or something akin to this) again next time he is bored. I mean really, the poor kid was sitting at a concert that he couldn't care less about. When my parents used to drag me to church or other snore fests at an early age I used to sit there, staring at the ceiling, and pretend Spiderman was swinging webs back and forth for the entire time or I'd look at the religious statues and make them come to life. Meanwhile, when I was stuck in long car rides, I'd pretend I had superspeed and was racing the car to the destination the entire time so I just kept looking out the window and picturing myself running across the scenery as the car past it by (and that's just one of who knows how many scenarios that I happen to remember as an adult). Fortunately nobody had the misfortune to prod me into revealing what was going through my head at the time.

I used to see my mom sitting in a chair beside my bed when I was this age. There was no chair there, and I know my mom was in bed. I also saw ET walk into my room once. I wasn't dreaming, I was awake and knew what I was seeing wasn't real. Its a psychological phenomenon in small children that I don't know the name of, where children really do see these ghost images, but because of how young they are, they don't completely understand they aren't real. As far as I know it hasn't been fully explained yet, but the kids who do this aren't psychotic. Your son sees Jesus because that's all you talk about. He'll grow out of the seeing stuff, and hopefully out of the obsession with Jesus too.

That - if you start thinking like the adults you're supposed to be - the penny's hopefully starting to drop, re. this 'Faith' & 'Belief' malarkey.

An 'Imagination' is one thing. Psychologists even suggest that 'Imaginary Friends' can actually be good for a child's developing self-realisation/awareness/personality, and how they relate to others & honing their interaction skills, thus their social development & growth. Becoming well-rounded individuals, and sane human beings as a whole, thus said psychologists tell parents to encourage such behaviour.

It doesn't look good to said parents, however, if they continue with that 'Invisible Friends' mentality. One word: Perception.

So your son was 'annoyed' about you not being able to see what he could? Does that sound familiar to you lot, re. we Atheists, and you banging on & on about 'Belief' and 'Faith'; the 'Spiritual Realm' and the 'Supernatural'?

PROTIP: I'm reminded of the scene in "Predator II", in the cemetery, and Lt. Harrigan (Danny Glover) is mourning over his dead comrade. The kid with the toy gun. He sees the Yautja, even though it has it's cloaking device activated. He then runs off to tell his parents...!
