Michael Servetus was a Renaissance scholar, notably the first westener to correctly describe pulmonary circulation. Calvin had him burned as a heretic due to not believing in the Trinity and Calvin being a sour loser, an event that was controversial even among Calvinist and was important for the philosophy of religious tolerance in protestant thought.

1. At least, his understanding of comics as a medium to have improved, going beyond his signature style of "two people standing in the Featureless Void, talking walls of texts at each other with minimal body language."

Calvin and some of his friends arranged for Servetus to be executed for heresy (i.e. disagreeing with Calvin). The burning alive was someone else's idea, Calvin 'only' wanting him to have his head chopped off. Still, it does mark Calvin out as a sore loser (as the Pharaoh said).

And I notice Adam Ford hasn't addressed this except to imply that it's a lot of fuss about nothing.

I don't believe in predestination either - be it by our genes or our environment or the molecular structure of the universe, and I also maintain that to believe in predestination is to deny ourselves sentience. I doubt that Adam Ford understands such concepts however, or if he does, he is playing up to the morons instead (much as Ray Comfort does).

Oh very good, Adam. Who gives a rat's arse about someone who was burned at the stake? Obviously our amateur cartoonist doesn't.

Even the Christianity Today website says this:
There was one tragic event during Calvin’s tenure in Geneva which brought him not only heartache, but also condemnation. If Calvin is remembered for anything beyond his doctrine of predestination, it was his part in the trial of Michael Servetus. No one should excuse Calvin for consenting to the execution of this confessed heretic, but one should understand that men of the sixteenth century viewed blasphemy as a capital offense. This was no less true of Catholics than of Protestants.

Sounds like anti-Calvinists are obsessed with Gothy Middle Aged Harry Potter Schoolteachers.

It's like GOPers yelling "BENGHAZI!" to the point of sounding like comical Wuxia-flick stereotypes.

And Servetus sounds like an awesome guy who put the smackdown on Calvin and Darth Calvin only made Obi-Wan Servetus "....more powerful than he could possibly imagine!"....

IMHO; There is life after physical death and while it's not scientifically proven, there is some circumstantial evidence out there that there may be something to this "spirit" stuff.

I always keep that in mind when I hear about a tragic death/murder/assassination.
