Gandhi beat three black men to death with his bare fists, on different occasions...
It's all true and more.
[Lightwave is bearing false witness a sin?]
It's all true and more.
Interestingly, when Indians come to our shores they are shocked at the reverence we hold for Gandhi, because they do not. Far from it.

What is this guy on, and why isn't he sharing?
...On second thought, maybe it's better if we don't know.
What the FUCK do you people have against Gandhi?
I swear, do you have any idea how many fundies I've seen going on and on about him? I mean, what the fuck?
"What the FUCK do you people have against Gandhi? "
Well they constantly brag about being Jebus best friend, then they see this half-naked heathen who actually acts like him and they feel threatened.
@Bad Influence:
I suspect that they hate him because his moral and good behavior by far surpasses the behavior of anyolne within the fundamentalist ranks, all this while Gandhi never has been a christian.
So, because according to the worldview ot fundamentalists it cannot be that such moral pesons exist outside of christianity, he must have either been secretly a christian, or he must have secretly commited some hidden crimes which, if they were uncovered, would let the world see Gandhi with other eyes.
I assume the fundamentalists think the same about the Dalai Lama ;)
I met many who did. And I was in Delhi at the time.
So that makes you a (a) lying cunt or (b) fucking moron.
I'm going to go with (a) and (b)

I recall reading an article in National Geographic (about the dalits, a caste that is reduced to working menial and disgusting jobs) that mentioned that many of those people don't exactly hold Gandhi in high regard, and on googling I found this blog entry about the "dwindling respect for Mahatma Gandhi."
Almost every town or city in India has a street named in honor of the Mahatma.
Go back to your homework, lightwave, before your mom catches you.
@ Seigi no Mikata: I can understand why the dalits would be less than thrilled with Gandhi. People on the lowest level of the social ladder wouldn't exactly revere a guy who may have changed the system... but left them on the bottom rung.
Still, Lightwave is resolutely talking out his anus either way.
Wow. I didn't realize Gandhi was so badass. Gandhi 2: No More Passive Resistance!
edit: Darnit Porky Pine, you beat me to it.
Lying for jeebus, racism for jeebus, hatred for jeebus. This person is a real jackass. Fuck off. Gandhi was more a godly man than any christian could ever dream of being. Gandhi exhibited the spirit of the teachings of jesus more than any christian could ever think of being. Gandhi was a true christian, and he wasn't even a christian, he was Hindu.
Gandhi did recant his statements on black people later on in life. It may have to do with his changing perceptions (remember he was originally educated by the brits and so believed black people were lazy and inferior) Towards the end of his life he was encouraging them to rise up and take their own steps forward for freedom.
Gandhi also could stretch his arms to punch you across the screen, teleport and breathe fire...
Ghandi wasn't perfect. He didn't do anything for the untouchables, and he was racist towards black people. But that just means that he was human and flawed. We can revere and admire what he did without putting him on a pedestal. But neither do those flaws mean that we have to totally dismiss him or his achievements.
This doesn't sound fundy at all, but then I haven't read the context surrounding it. Ghandi was an avowed racist towards black Africans (well documented), but the whole "beat three black men to death with his bare hands" bit needs citation.
@Argle Bargle: Don't make me laugh like that when I'm drinking Pepsi Max, you bastard. Yes - I remember thinking "But, but - you're supposed to be the leader of peace. Leader of peace THIS, you treacherous so-and-so!' Sadly, the Civ 3 AIs were like that.
Go read about the guy for real this time. Whether you like him or not, whether you agree with him or not, he was pretty much an amazing guy and well known for his philosophies and actions for non-violence .
Again a fundy twisting the facts.
Remember when Gandhi said he liked Christ, but not the Christians?
You're why. And if you ever met Jesus, you'd be ripping on him, too.
He certainly could have gotten into fights in his youth; according to the Encyclopedia Britannica he went "through a phase of adolescent rebellion, marked by secret atheism, petty thefts, furtive smoking, andmost shocking of all for a boy born in a Vaishnava familymeat eating," though "his adolescence was probably no stormier than that of most children of his age and class." (I have the Encyclopedia on my computer.)
But actually killing "black" people? I watched the movie Gandhi, and as far as I remember it was never mentioned. It must be a Liberal conspiracy!
And while I'm sure not every. single. one of the billion or so Indians adore Gandhi (especially, as everywhere else they have fundamentalists, they would hate a man who summarized his belief system as "God is Truth") many of them at least repect him for being "a major political and spiritual leader of India and the Indian independence movement." He was, after all, assasinated by a fellow Indian, a man with ties to extremist Hinduism.
Gandhi is held in high regard for leading the drive to independence. His flaws are not preventing partition in a unified India, but in two rival states of India and Pakistan, separated primarilay on religious grounds. He also did nothing to remove the caste system, which was in place for centuries and is considered by some to be an economic mainstay.
Of course. Ghandi also kicked puppies and ate kittens.
And don't get me into what the Dali Lama is into, that man is just sick!

Ghandi recanted his racist views in his later years, which is more than I can say for some fundies. And hey, let's be honest, you lot are in favor of keeping gays and anyone who doesn't follow your brand of religion as second-class citizens. How are you a flock of angels compared to someone who actually got shit done and didn't have to nuke anyone in the process?

Well, while Gandhi was not a True Christian, according to whatever particular definition they're using. Gandhi said that he was a Christian, which is the official way of identifying Christians (official = for tax purposes).
Of course, Gandhi also said that he was a Muslim, a Buddhist, and a Jew, as well as a Hindu. So clearly he was working with a different set of criteria.
Confused?
