Scientific advances? Like polluting the environment and inventing cancer!?

Regarding "pollution of the environment", this is not a problem of science. Science rather brings this problem to mind, and can offer solutions against pollution and exploitation of the environment.

Ancient and indigenous societies have been very detrimental to their environment. For example, there is a reason why the mediterranean is now mainly dry bushland. In ancient times, it was completely covered with forest. Until the romans came.

The isolated society of Easter Island collapsed seriously after they began to plunder their limited resources to erect huge stone heads, out of religious reasons.

Polluting the environment is rather a problem of the mindset "It's there, therefore we are entitled to exploit it!". A lot of religious people justify this unresponsible behaviour with certain bible verses.
