Our ability to think, to reason, to innovate, that seperates us from the animals. Society creates what is right and wrong.

We are animals, anyone who says otherwise is fooling themselves. As for right and wrong, it certainly didnt and doesnt come from religion.

Evolution is plenty directed, it just doesnt give a damn about you personally, what a scary concept.

Evolution itself says nothing about all the various afterlives proposed by all the various religions.

Evolution also says nothing about this. Personally, I'm an atheist and theres obviously no evidence for any god, but speaking hypothetically in your idiom (I assume), why couldnt god have set evolution in motion and then stepped back?

some of the more intelligent non-human animals have been shown to capable of understanding the concept of fairness, and to be capable of empathy, both of which lie at the basis of human morality.

We are free to choose our own purpose in life, we don't need a purpose given to us on a platter.

There are lots of people that believe in evolution and in souls, the two are not actually mutually exclusive, and even if they were, so what?

Again, believing in God and believing in evolution aren't mutually exclusive there are people who believe that God provided some level of guidance to evolution. And why is God not existing a problem anyway?

* Humans are animals. Get used to this, once and for all. We may be much more socially aware than other species, and we don't operate by instinct alone, but we are still animals.
* It's up to you to make the best of what life has given you. I have plenty of "purpose" in my life, thanks very much. Caring for my wife (who happens to be a believer) being of prime importance.

Nope. Because of one simple thing:

'If.' [/Spartan Laconic Wit] Also:

1- We live a finite time (one word: Telomeres). Thus, between the cord being cut and carking it, in the intervening time, we 'Treat others as you would want them to treat you'. As I wouldn't like being killed/harmed, nor have my property stolen/damaged, why should I do the same to others? Everything else follows from that.

2- Commit acts of gratuitous kindness too. A favour done is a favour paid forward. Do good things to others, you feel good. QED.

3- Things happen purely by chance, as did organic life, right up to today; hey, shit happens, right? Deal with it.

4- ?????

5- You FAIL, fundie religionists.

If this were a good argument, it’s still not a reason to reject evolution. If that’s teh consequence, then it’s the consequence.
But it’s not a good argument.
Nothing in evolutionary theory says there are no gods. Just that Genesis isn’t a literal history. that’s religion’s problem, not science.
