The #1 worldly thing the Lord Jesus Christ saved me of is Halloween. I used to really be into it. For at least the last twelve years I have hated it. I have a stash of Jack Chick "Halloween" tracts (Boo!, Little Princess, etc.) and I leave a pile of 'em on the stoop of my apartment building. I don't answer the door. I don't go to Halloween parties any more and I refer to 31 Oct as "Satan Day" whenever anyone brings up the subject. I actually hope I offend my neighbors with the tracts, but it hasn't happened yet...

"And every November 1st, when I open my apartment door, I find it and the entire hallway coated in an inch thick sheen of crystallized raw egg, and a hundred burned out paper bags full of dog shit. That's Satan trying to make me pay for not worshipping him on Halloween."
As a side note, as a child, I think Halloween was my absolute favorite day of the year. It was so subversive. You go to stranger's homes and demand they give you candy. And the only way for a holiday of that kind of nature to work is if the social bonds of humans are such that most people play along and not cheat in the game. It's a holiday that reassures us that we are all human, al one species.
Not like christmas, where I have seen fist fights break out over pecan pies at my local store. I shit you not.
Are you ready for the Trick then?
Be ready, we are warning you once, no more.

This sounds like the same "me against the world" mentality as guys like the Columbine shooters.
My guess is he's not offending people. He's scaring them. He's probably earning a reputation as the neighborhood weird guy that kids are told to stay away from. God forbid a cross gets burned or some kid is snatched in his neighborhood - he'll be the first one people point to and the cops haul in for questioning.

That's because they're probably too busy pitying you to be offended. Jack Chick tracts aren't offensive anyway, they're just laughable.
If you offend neighbours with your tracks, you're not doing it right and fulfilling the goal for which they're designed. And man, why did Jesus have to save you from honouring the dead people who are in Heaven(on the contrary, that's the real name of Halloween), to eat candies or to go disguised?, is it so horrible?
A note of reality.
Halloween in the American tradition is a perversion of what it really is. It is the Celtic New Year. In the Celtic countries (Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Brittany) it is marked with bonfires and parties. There is a nod in the direction of the 'other side of the veil' because this festival comes to us from very ancient times when our ancestors were pagan - but our countries were christianized over 1600 years ago... So...
This linking of Halloween with ghosts and witches is a purely American thing. The idea, presumably was to lighten matters with a little spookiness, like telling ghost stories in front of the turf fire on a cold night in winter - deliciously spine-chilling. But no more than that.
Then the fundies come in and start getting their sanctified jockstraps in a twist over something they just don't understand... Perfect fundamentalist (lack of) logic.
My response, get your hands off my history and traditions and go an make your own independent ones. You;ve already made a good start with the Rapture and Demonizations. Go invent some more!
Halloween forever An tSamhain Abú!
According to all Chick tracts, when one of the moronic "baddies" of the stories hears the stupid platitude, they immediately accept Jesus Christ as their saviour, and he expects his tracts to have the same effect. So, if you offend your neighbours, something is going wrong, according to Chick mentality.

I sure wouldn't be offended. I have a wood stove, and those Chick Tracts make great firelighters.
Happy Satan Day!!
Now, STFU.
Fine, you go lock yourself away, it will be a relief not to have a killjoy around anyway.
What do you want to bet that this guy would go out and preach the evils of Halloween via megaphone if he didn't stay in?
I've met some people like this guy.
I usually take all the tracts I can, and leave parodies in their place.
I recommend this tactic for anyone with a similar nutjob on their Trick-or-Treating route.
1. What the hell is a tract?
2. So you're an asocial idiot. And you want to ruin everybody else's fun.
3. Halloween has nothing to do with Satan, especially not now. Screw your symbolism, it's just a day.
"I actually hope I offend my neighbors with the tracts, but it hasn't happened yet..."
And I hope they throw a brick through your window.
Not that I condone vandalism, but if anyone deserves it, it's probably you.
Well happy Satan day to you, David NR.
I certainly hope some stray dog poops on your pile of Chick tracts, that's all they're good for anyway.
I'm quite sure your presence is not missed at the Halloween parties. I'm also sure your neighbors aren't offended by you because they probably think you're just a dickwad anyway. Enjoy your sad little life.
To all the rest of you, Happy Halloween.

Wow. You really ARE a screaming asshole, aren't you?
"it hasn't happened yet"
They moved.
Children only go there because they want to feel important and the main characters for one day, to dress up and eat sweets, they're not looking spiritual guidance. If you stopped treating children like mini-adults, you'd see things in another way.
I used to think that Halloween was cheesy and ridiculous when my husband and I moved to England first time(I spent my childhood in Spain and Ireland and this is celebrating in a different way). However, unlike David, I celebrate halloween and the children come to my house because not only I give them sweets, but also I pretend I'm scared, I make jokes and I give them the best sweets. After all, that's what halloween is about, to make children happy. Isn't it Christian, instead of treating them as mini-adults that you have to shine with your holier-than-thou intellect?. Because, believe me, the first year, they will go to your house. Second year, they won't pass and you'll fail because your chick tracts are going to rot there and you'll scare them from Christianity, instead of attracting them. After all, didn't Jesus say that the Kingdom is for people like them?, of course, because they have no evil and they're happy with harmless little things like attention, fun, fancy dresses and sweets, they don't need indoctrination from a book they don't even understand(or read sometimes)and rob them time to play and be happy.
you actually want to offend them? Wow. If you do and they raise their voice and ask you "please leave us alone" you'll think that is persecution! You'll dance for days and scurry off to RR to share the good news.
You are mistaken about Halloween. It's a holy day for me and I suggest you do some reading on the ancient Celts(mentioned before my post). As for the Chick tracts: I saw a stack in Lowe's placed on a sale table. I took all of them and threw them in the trash can outdoors. Finally, us Pagans would like the rest of our Holy days back. We had them first.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
