well I really don't know..i 've never attended a public school.. i do kno like Nicole said, it may be a southern thing, they are very leaniant with u bringin u'r Bible to School UNTIL it is somethin that is offensive to them.
I know at one school nearby, in 9th grade, the history book is all about religion, there are pages upon pages of different religions, but a paragraph on Christianity. Basically they are givin the kids a choice on what they want to believe. My cousins mother in law is a high school teacher, and every morning she would give a devotional every morning, an thispunk rocker, who obviously didn't kno wat he believed went to th principles office an threw a fit about it, (prolly only b/c he was convicted of his sin and needed to get saved or get right) and the school board came to her..
Next morning, she said, we are gonna continue to have our devotions, an if you dont like it, leave.. WHOOO HOOO.... Go mrs. Linda!!!
America needs God, an I wonder what its gonna take for us to Realize it, I mean it took a terrorist attack for us to start putting, "ptay for america" Banners everywhere....
God be merciful unto us!!

an thispunk rocker, who obviously didn't kno wat he believed went to th principles office an threw a fit about it,
I'll bet money that what actually happened, was the kid went to the head master merely explaining what said teacher was doing and asked if it was appropriate.
What the teacher did was not appropriate - now, if the kid threw an actual tantrum over it, then that is ridiculous - but school is for learning, not doing stupid Fundie 'devotionals'. Want to do devotionals? Fine. Go to Church. It's what they're there for.
Basically they are givin the kids a choice on what they want to believe.
Freedom of religion? TEH HORROR!!!!111one
If this is a public school she is talking about, then that teacher should be fired, do not pass go, do not collect $200.
PTAY FOR AMERICA!!!!!!!
"well I really don't know.. i 've never attended a public school.. "
Maybe you should skip opining on subjects even you admit you don't know about.
"i do kno like Nicole said, it may be a southern thing, they are very leaniant with u bringin u'r Bible to School UNTIL it is somethin that is offensive to them."
That's a trait most people have, Dumdum. Few people make a ruckus over things that don't offend them.
"I know at one school nearby, in 9th grade, the history book is all about religion, there are pages upon pages of different religions, but a paragraph on Christianity."
I doubt it's "all" about religion.
Maybe they wrote more about other religions because the vast majority of students are Christians, and while their knowledge of Christianity is probably woefully poor, their knowledge of other religions is most likely even poorer, possibly zero.
"Basically they are givin the kids a choice on what they want to believe."
Choice is a GOOD thing, Ash. If Christianity can't make a convincing case for itself, one shouldn't choose it.
"My cousins mother in law is a high school teacher, and every morning she would give a devotional every morning,"
Every morning she would do it every morning?
"an thispunk rocker, who obviously didn't kno wat he believed went to th principles office an threw a fit about it,"
To tell his principal that his teacher lacked principles.
"(prolly only b/c he was convicted of his sin and needed to get saved or get right)"
Probably because tax-payer funded religious evangelism to a captive public school audience is offensive and illegal.
"and the school board came to her.."
As well they should.
"Next morning, she said, we are gonna continue to have our devotions, an if you dont like it, leave.."
And she should have, at least, lost her job.
How would you feel if the daily devotional was Islamic or Hindu?
"WHOOO HOOO.... Go mrs. Linda!!!"
Boo Hoo... Go to the unemployment line, Mrs. Linda.
"America needs God"
You can't even show that your God exists. How can we possibly need a non-existant god?
"I wonder what its gonna take for us to Realize it"
You seem to think you realize it already. For us non-believers to realize a need for your God will take clear, credible evidence that your God exists and that believing in him bestows some significant, tangable benefits.
"I mean it took a terrorist attack for us to start putting, "ptay for america" Banners everywhere...."
Most of us, even Christians, do not do that. None of us atheists do that.
"God be merciful unto us!!"
As your God is a fictional character from your big book of ancient fairy tales, he can neither be merciful nor cruel to anyone.
Grow up. Ditch that Bible and Bugger Randy. Take a big slug of reality and become a reasonable, thinking adult.
I know at one school nearby, in 9th grade, the history book is all about religion,
That's a mighty odd history book you have then. Mine contained things like the revolutionary war, civil war, WWI & WWII, you know, things like that.
there are pages upon pages of different religions, but a paragraph on Christianity.
Perhaps if Christians wouldn't accost everyone with their beliefs as often as they can your religion would be less well known and more worthy of a full page.
My cousins mother in law is a high school teacher, and every morning she would give a devotional every morning,
Every morning you say? Are you sure? You could have taken the time to read over what you'd written you know.
an thispunk rocker, who obviously didn't kno wat he believed went to th principles office an threw a fit about it,
And rightfully so.
and the school board came to her..
Next morning, she said, we are gonna continue to have our devotions, an if you dont like it, leave.. WHOOO HOOO.... Go mrs. Linda!!!
Yes, go Mrs. Linda. Go right to the unemployment line.
America needs God, an I wonder what its gonna take for us to Realize it,
I hope for your sake it's not spelling, grammar, punctuation or capitalization skills.
God be merciful unto us!!
Indeed. Please come remove your followers from our planet!
there are pages upon pages of different religions, but a paragraph on Christianity.
And I'll bet each of those other different religions was given about a paragraph apiece, too.
Oh, but I forgot, Fundies think that all religions other than Christianity are Satan-worship, so you believe that those pages and pages on other religions are all just describing the different flavors of Satanism. No WONDER you think the text is biased!
I bet you anything the book had pages and pages on Catholicism, the Reformation, Calvinism, the Chruch of England, Dieism, but only one paragraph on Southern Baptists.
I call bullshit on the "history" book with "pages upon pages of different religions, but a paragraph on Christianity."
I edit history and social studies textbooks, and Texas, which is the largest textbook market in the nation (so they get exactly what they ask for) requires that all major religions receive equal space in social studies texts. By that, they mean the same number of lines, the same number of images, and so forth. They are quite strict about it.
Since almost every basal program is built on what Texas wants (it being, as I said, the biggest market), my guess is that little Ashley Brianne is, once again, lyin' fer Jaysus.
If you're not just lying for Jesus, then there's a good chance this Mrs. Linda has tenure. Oh wait, AB probably doesn't know what that means. In short, you can do almost whatever you want and not get fired.
In fact, a few years before I started high school, a Chem teacher let two kids build BOMBS during their independent study. One smoke bomb got made about 10x more powerful than it should have been, which is how the administration caught on. He got a stern talking to and still works at the school (I graduated last year). He also still like blowing stuff up/burning things. :)
In a parallel universe, Ashley Brianne is a hot hippie chick who's everybody's friend (and maybe then some) and probably helped organize a protest at a WTO meeting.
In this universe, she's just messed up.
"Basically they are givin the kids a choice on what they want to believe."
Not only is this a very good thing, but if you read it in contexts, she seems to think that just because the children are learning about other religions, they are going to start believeing in them. As if the children couldn't make up their own minds, which she probably doesn't think they can, as she only believes what she was brainwashed to believe.
"ptay for america"
I read this as "Par-tay for America" which sounds quite fun.
Horrible spelling... Check
Irony that walks a thin line between hilarity and depression ... Check
*Boing* *Boing* *Boing*... Check
'Clear' and 'obvious' used to describe things that are neither... Check.
Blurring of Christianity and patriotism... Check
Without reading the source, I could likely have guessed where this came from.
"the history book is all about religion, there are pages upon pages of different religions, but a paragraph on Christianity" - she means Baptists. References to Lutherans, Anglicans and all Protestants plus (god forbid) Roman Catholics who are NOT considered Christian by Bro Randy and his fans would not be included. That might leave a paragraph about the IFBs.
Possibly they assume that you might learn about Christianity from the various Christian(or in your fundie case, PAULINE) churches on every corner, whereas it might be hard to find a mosque or synagogue in every rural American town. Hope Mrs. linda finds a new job soon. Hopefully outside the public education field.
I love how Ashley doesn't even consider that the student that turned in Mrs. Linda may have been a Lutheran... an Anglican... a Roman Catholic... but someone who realized it is the place of church, not school, to give daily devotionals. Mrs. Linda was not following the law...
What is she talking about we have plenty of religious freedom in the south. We allow you to be a baptist, methodist, pentacostal, lutheren, and in the more liberal areas even catholic. You can be any of them and not be marginilized.
BTW I always love this girls post shes like a crazy southern belle. An ideal if you will. Dumb and proud of it.
Axver:
No, that's Katy-Anne, who is apparently no longer on the board thanks to some sort of doctrinal falling-out with Bro. Randy.
Ptay for America, y'all!
"it may be a southern thing, they are very leaniant with u bringin u'r Bible to School UNTIL it is somethin that is offensive to them."
I live in the South and it's not illegal to bring your Bible to school, even if someone doesn't like it.
"I know at one school nearby, in 9th grade, the history book is all about religion, there are pages upon pages of different religions, but a paragraph on Christianity."
My 9th grade history book was all about religion. It was World History. Every other page had some religious war or quarrel on it. Christianity was in it under the title of Catholic.
"Basically they are givin the kids a choice on what they want to believe."
Isn't that good? (Though, there's no religion in school to choose from, unless Evolution is a religion now)
"My cousins mother in law is a high school teacher, and every morning she would give a devotional every morning, an thispunk rocker, who obviously didn't kno wat he believed went to th principles office an threw a fit about it, (prolly only b/c he was convicted of his sin and needed to get saved or get right) and the school board came to her.."
He probably didn't like a teacher trying to covert people in school. Though, I didn't like my Biology teacher because she was a preacher. I lived with it and I never threw a fit.
"Next morning, she said, we are gonna continue to have our devotions, an if you dont like it, leave.. WHOOO HOOO.... Go mrs. Linda!!!"
And the next day, the punk rocker said, "If you don't like the law, then you can leave!"
"America needs God,"
I thought Fundies believed that American IS God.
"I mean it took a terrorist attack for us to start putting, "ptay for america" Banners everywhere...."
I've never seen one, and again, I live in the South. <_<
"God be merciful unto us!!"
Rapture away!
"Basically they are givin [sic] the kids a choice on what they want to believe."
A hundred gallons of "plus", please.

You're allowed to bring most outside reading material to just about any school, (I used to take fan magazines to school all the time) as long as they're not interfering with your work or anyone else's.
And yes, that teacher should have been, and probably was eventually fired.
"well I really don't know..i 've never attended a public school.. i do kno like Nicole said, it may be a southern thing, they are very leaniant with u bringin u'r Bible to School UNTIL it is somethin that is offensive to them."
And thus is demonstrated the prime reason why 'hoemskuling' by fundie households should be illegal. I went to state schools, and it certainly did me no harm. Where thinking for yourself is encouraged.
Over here in the UK, even 'Faith' schools have to teach Evolution and the Big Bang in their curriculum as fact. It's the law.
See, US fundies? Forced Atheism. We're still here.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
