Way back during the school bussing brouhaha in Boston, there was one activity that seemed worthwhile - strong opponents and supporters of bussing were put in a room without the media and left to their own devices. As I recall, they came out of the room hours later - not with agreement, but with a better understanding of where the other side was coming from, their goals and dreams, their fears and concerns. In other words, they had a conversation. This is not something even remotely possible at a national level, it could not be on TV, it could not be lead by politicians.
If it happened today, the conservatives would come out alive and the liberals would be dead. And on that day, we'd have taken one small step towards restoring the Republic.

You mean that if the liberals and the conservatives were locked in a room together to talk it out, the conservatives would just shoot them and then claim they "won"? Yeah, sounds like Republican politics in a nutshell; either you agree with them, or you hate America and all it stands for.
Only if you shot them from behind. Honestly, do you shits really think you're the toughest most capable ideology in the system? Pictures at your various rallies show otherwise, collectively you are the nations mostly hidden embarrassment of out of shape whiners.
In other words, they had a conversation.
And what good did it do? I remember another attempt at "conversation": they sat a bunch of different people around a table, gave them a copy of the Federal budget and asked them to balance the budget by cutting spending. Needless to say, the college student said one thing, the senior citizen another, the business owner a third, the stay-at-home mom a fourth, etc. Everybody wanted to cut spending on someone else instead of themselves. That's why, for all the conservative "cut the government" talk, it never gets done. Neither conservatives nor liberals really want to cut the government - they just don't want the government spending money on other people.
...and THAT, friends, is the best argument I've seen yet for voting the Democratic ticket.
"Mainstream" Mike, my big pink ass.
@John: No conversation would actually occur in this situation. The conservatives in the US have made it very clear that they will not compromise on ANYTHING. Hence why the US Senate has done absolutely nothing since 2010, except collect a paycheck and try to destroy Obamacare, again and again and again. Oh, and Benghazi investigations; can't forget those!
Yeah, because who wants a conversation, right? Better kill first, and ask questions later.
@ NeoMatrix
Both the conservatives and the liberals would consist mostly of Christians, if this happened in the US, so all would be dead, if Christianity was what made them violent.
Uh; Your politics are not "mainstream". You're the minority. You and your ilk aren't worthy of the mainstream.
You're the minority....the fringe....the nut....the Far-Right fascist theocratic goober....the idiots polluting the mainstream! You're The MINORstream!
Come Election Day; You'll be the fountain of tears from which we sane Americans, who embody REAL AMERICAN VALUES, will drink deeply from! I already have my water bottle ready!
HAIL TO THE CHIEF!....

....Get used to it!
Ooooh! Lookit the Internet Tough Guy (a weak wimpypants). If you would rather resort to violence rather than discussion like a real civilized human being, then you're not worthy to run even an at-home kiddie lemonade stand.
Violence is not "manly". "Intellect & Discussion" is.
There, in two sentences, is one of the big problems with the US in a nutshell. And the tribalism grows...
When you are averse to reason if it means possibly thinking about your convictions (or worse, contemplating that those outside your tribe aren't monsters), it's time to leave society. Clearly you aren't interested in it.
@NeoMatrix if that's the case, why haven't my girlfriend, parents, siter, and 75% of my friends tried to execute me?
Confused?
