Anyway, I was reading something recently, at they have a point. Let me know what you think-

The Bible has credibility because-
1. It was influenced by God Himself *
2. It was written by several authors
3. It has a high moral standard
4. It has changed peoples' lives

Three Things That Point to God
1. We have a design, so we must have a designer
2. We have morals, so there must be a moral law giver
3. We have logical minds, so there must be a higher Intellect

* 1 Timothy 6:3-4 tells that those who are false teachers have a desire to quibble with the meanings of words and stir up arguments.
"For the word of the Lord holds true, and everything he does is worthy of our trust." - Psalm 33:4
(There's another I need to find in 1 Timothy, but I forgot where it was.

3b. It considers moral to give virgin daughters to mobs, enslavement of children and women and utterly anhilation of those that don't agree with you, down to their babies. While considering inmoral eating shellfish and wearing clothes made out of two different materials.

Not everything that is has been designed. Not even all that is made has been designed. Huge cathedrals have been build that didn't even always have more than a rough sketch as to how it should look when finished. Back in the day people build boats on memory, they didn't have building plans.

In short: just because something has a shape doesn't mean someone had to give it that shape based on prior planning. Just look at erosion.

Who gave the higher intellect/moral authority it's morals/intellect?

Yes, I accept everything that has several authors as being god breathed too.

We don't have a design. If we did, then there would not be a sewer in a place that was so obviously designed as a playground.

There are easier explanations for morals.

3. We have logical minds, so there must be a higher Intellect
If we have logical minds, then there must be a higher intellect? So if God has a logical mind, then there must be a higher intellect than Him?

Such are the claims of Christians, but no proof has ever been offered.

So what? Thieves World was author by many, that doesn't make it factual.

Oh, don't make me choke. The Bible does sometimes expound high moral standards, but it also teaches some of the most vile ethics I've ever heard of.

Again, some Christians say that, but they have never supplied us with any proof.

We atheists have ethics also, but we didn't get them from a deity.

Having logical minds does not in any way indicate that there is a "higher Intellect." A logical mind may help you understand that God DOESN'T exist, but it does not show that he DOES exist.

(note: I just like using lucky charms to mock'em. I'm actually more of a fan of the plain stuff with shitloads of strawberries/blueberries thrown in, somteimes some banana, or the occasional sugar-crisps or generibrand equivalent when there's some overtime to do)

First, this is a fallacy. Second, why must the designer be your God?

By the way, who designed the designer, gave the lawgiver his morals, and is the higher intellect of our higher intellect? Ultra-god? And who is the ultra-god of Utra-god? And who is the ultra-god of ultra-ultra-god... Ad infinitum.

Key word here: influenced. Not written. It was written, edited, and cobbled together by man. It is fallible.

The Bible lacks credibility because:
1. Nobody could possibly prove that God had jack-shit to do with the Bible.
2. It was edited together by several authors who probably knew it was not to be taken seriously, or scientifically.
3. People use it as their ONLY moral standard, without thinking for themselves.
4. Some people really needed psychological comfort, but that does not give the Bible credibiliy.

Three Things Lucy Claims that are Pretty Much Wrong:
1. Designs can be created by the environment, and gradually evolved, which is why it took us billions of years to get here.
2. Again, after thousands of years of human civilization, we have realized that killing people is a bad idea. Humanity doesn't need an external source of righteousness.
3. You're saying since we can think, there must be something smarter than us? That does not follow at all. I was thinking, "Something in our environment, such as early civilization, must have favored a logical, powerful mind such as ours." And does not "God" have a logical mind? Who designed God? Himself? Natural Selection? "He always was"? Fail.

No it doesn't:
1) Scripture doesn't prove scripture. The Quran also states it is the Word of God. To quote Pat Condell: "If the bible is the word of god and the quran is the word of god, then god must have two words and I believe I can guess what they are as well."
2) Uncyclopedia.org was written by several authors. Doesn't make whatever stated on that site fact.
3) I never knew it took a high moral standard to endorse rape, murder, and slavery.
4) Yes. Many become brainwashed, er, born again, and learn to spread intolerance.

1) Good point, although that doesn't prove the bible/christian god true.
2) Well we certainly don't follow all of god's supposed laws to a T now do we? Otherwise we'd stone adulterers, disobediant children, and non-believers, and we don't do that anymore as we are a civil society.
3) Perhaps there is, but it certainly isn't the god of the bible who resorts to something a human dictator would do, killing all who don't worship him.

Well, I do not look designed, I look like the men in my fathers family and have the hair of my mothers family. Would that imply that I have combined inherited features ?

Well, I gave me my moral myself. Most of them I took from my parents that rose me, others out of literature, philosophy and various religions, and a few are genuinely mine. The whole mix is MY morals, made by ME!

Funny wise my moralistic system does work well with most people I interact with on a regular or occasional basis.

How do you know? I mean, it’s clear that the KJV was written to please King James. How would you test the claim that it’s what God wanted it to say?

And edited to a single standard.

Have you read Numbers chapter 5? Test a wife’s fidelity by giving her an abortion? How many people does God kill or have killed because they’re simply in the way? How ‘high’ is the standard of selling your daughter to her rapist?

So has adopting a vegetarian diet. Or giving up smoking. Or homeschooling. Or taking a Philosophy class. People can change.
