I realize this might just be a perception I have, but with Prop 8 back in the news, and the many homosexuals garnering media attention again (with June being Gay pride month also ) I was wondering.....

Why does it seem first off, that homosexual couples "appear" to be so happy? I mean they want this law overturned and to be able to marry so badly its kinda frightening....

And also, why does it seem like their sin does not produce the same consequences as others? I mean murder often lands you in jail, drugs & alcohol....very obvious the consequences of abusing those.
And let's not even mention the consequences of other sexual sins... I know that many feel the Aids disease was a consequence of their behavior, but today it does not discriminate. And sure every once in a while, you'll hear in the news of a gay couple wanting to divorce or separate and there is a child born or adopted that becomes a custody fight, but that is not the average like with heterosexual couples. You rarely hear a lot of crime or tragic stories...even crimes of passions...there are more women murdered by jealous boyfriends and husbands than same sex couples, you really don't hear that about gay couples....which to me being gay is sad and tragic enough...but is this just my perception. Why do they seem so darn happy?

Why does it seem in essence that even though they will be judged "one day", aside from things that are damaging to normal relationships, they are basically getting away with living and behaving in this manner?

Maybe because they are? And just maybe, they're not the miserable people you always make them out to be because, as you people put it, they know they're bound for hell. But perhaps the god they worship, if any, doesn't condemn homosexuality.

Because: 1. There's no such thing as sin. 2. Christians' perceptions of "sin" and earthly punishment are usually just correlations being made and there's no cosmic punishment for living a lifestyle that others disapprove of.

Oh and is it just me or does cocopea really sound disappointed that gays aren't by and large an unhappy lot? Next they'll be wondering why we atheists aren't always so unhappy.

What seems to be happening is that the RRers illuminated her with their "logic" & then they started sharing personal stories about conflicted homosexuals that they know. Coco started that one off with some drug-obsessed guy who was molested by a cousin as a teenager & whom, of course, Coco loves like a son & blahblahblahblahblah.

My favorite is the one where the poster went, "This gay guy (that I probably made up) was found dead with a bunch of stab wounds! See!? PROOF! Proof that homosexuality is bad for you!"

'Cause straight people never get stabbed. They would never volunteer to be penetrated with such a phallic object. They would much rather be filled with Jesus's warm love.

I do hope I appear happy. I am as happy as anyone can be who has had a long term intimate relationship for many more years that most modern marriages. So why shouldn't I want to have it recognised by the state and by society? It is a yardstick by which many others could measure the success of their relational lives. This is not to say that it has not had its ups and downs like any relationship, but we have weathered storms that sink many straight and gay couples. So what's to be frightened about? Here in France our community has no problem with us and we are considered contributing members, playing our part in enriching the lives of our neighbours. Can it be Americans (some) are afraid of....something that is only in their minds? Ah! The price demanded by prejudice, no doubt.

Cocopea, telling me I am a sinner is a no-no according to your holy book. Go look for the beam in your own eye, and judge not lest thou be judged! I'll look after my own faults, thank you.

The history of the genesis of AIDS is too well known to retell it here, but again your prejudice is on show. AIDS has never discriminated. It is an illness like any other. All humans are vulnerable. Charity demands that you have care for the sick, without qualification.

it seems to me, Cocopea, that you are mightily confused and probably need some help to sort out your confusion.

As to your religious angle, I think this is at the base of your confusion. Work it through and get help. The Bible and religion are no way to sort out your problem. This idea of judgement is in the self-validating Bible. But self-validation of a book is no way to prove it veracity. You might as well claim you are a Martican because you say you are a Martian... n'est-ce pas?

And btw, isn't there something disgusting and vile about probing other people's sex lives? Do you spy on your parents when they are having sex?

Sins don't land you in jail, crimes and misdemeanors do. Eating shellfish is a sin, but you won't go to jail for eating a shrimp sandwich. You were saying...?

As homosexuals were not allowed to show their sexual orientation openly, they were forced into hiding, which caused them to have secret meetings with like-minded.
You could almost say that Aids is the consequence to society for forcing homosexuals into hiding.

I have NEVER heard about a custody fight between homosexuals. I have heard of a multitude of custody fights between heterosexuals.

You think it's sad that so few homosexuals murder their spouses? Is your brain even switched on?

If God exists, we are all to be judged one day. I believe that people who are kind and good to each other get a free pass, while egoistic and hateful people get the shaft.
