the law of Gravity in its normal state can be broken by simply throwing a ball up in the air

The stupidity, it's BLINDING ME!
Guys - note though that the guy edited out this post and then said "I shouldn't have used that example" when pressed about it....so, in all likelihood, he's just a private idiot, not a public one.
If this works with a ball, then surely it should work whenever anyone jumps. Damn, who knew the secret to flight was simply being too stupid to know how gravity works?
Oh wow, now I'm seeing 8-Bit Theater in my head.
@Brian-sama & dpareja:
No, no, no.. you're both wrong.
To wit:
Adams' First Law of Aerodynamics states that the secret to flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.
:-D
Every day I read this site and every day, I come across a quote that makes me think, "That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard." Then the next day, I read something that makes me think, "No, *that's* the stupidest thing I've ever heard."
But this? This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
When you throw a ball up in the air, the ball and the you-Earth-etc. system move apart from each other, and then their paths along curved local spacetime bring them back together. It's just that the ball, being much less massive, does rather more moving than the rest.
And if the ball gets stuck in a tree or a gutter and doesn't come down again that disproves gravity, right?
I have a better idea. Go jump off a tall building and see how false gravity really is.
So, your balls never come down again, after you throw them up in the air?
You're not as rational as you think you are, stupid.
only if it does not come down again. Show me a ball thrown by a child that reaches orbit , or stips and hangs in the air.
hogh school science on calculating how high a ball will go.
Then you won't mind jumping off that ledge onto this trampoline, would you? Mind you, both happen to be very close to the edge of a tall cliff, but don't let that stop you!
“the law of Gravity”
Newton’s law, you mean?
“in its normal state”
What other state of gravity is there?
“can be broken by simply throwing a ball up in the air”
When does it stop going up?
What stops it?
Newton's Law of Universal Gravitation states that every particle in the universe attracts every other particle. Which means the only way for a rock you pick up to completely escape the law of gravity is to put it in a different universe.
That’s a hell of a throw, for a human, picking up a rock and throwing it out of existence…..
Confused?
