How can the average person believe in what science says or has proven? You have no knowledge if what scientists say is true or not, you just naturally believe them because it's science. Same goes with believing God. You can't prove that he/she/it is real, you simply have FAITH in your belief.

So we have faith in science and the techniques used by scienctists to avoid errors, like for example the practice of peer review.
And everyone has its own brain which, even for topics not studied, can be used to evaluate wether a scientific model gives a better description about reality, or a model formed according to belief in the literal truth of the bible (and also, which of the 2 contains less contradictions).
"How can the average person believe in what science says or has proven?"
Because I don't have to hunt an animal every time I'm hungry...
Because of the lovely train, which takes me to my job every day...
Because I lived through my first year with these amazing things called vaccines...
Because I can respond to this drivel you posted from your computer from my smartphone...
so if you the average person can believe in God (without proof) just because its God, then why cant they believe what sciencists say based on research and tangible evidence, 'just because' scientists say it?
@Sole Collector: lol. computers are evil things created just to piss of millions of people by crashing at those vital moments of time, such as when you hit 'save' on that 100 page document that just took 3 days to type.
"You have no knowledge if what scientists say is true or not"
Some of us are smarter than you, and we do.
Like, according to the x86 ISA and nasm standards, the instruction mov EAX, 18...
Which we can verify by compiling in nasm and running it.
Now, according to the Bible, God will consume animal sacrifices to prove himself in the event of a challenge.

And as you can see, the virgin is still intact.
Although just to be sure, I better go run some more tests on her. Um, I'll call you back when the .. uh... test results... come in... from the lab.
My husband has Hep C. (No, we don't know how he got it. I've been tested and, luckily, I don't have it.) Over the last four years he's had two, year-long courses of very unpleasant medication that have made him feel like he has permanent and very nasty flu, which has of course impacted on the family.
BUT his last five tests have shown that the level of the virus in his liver (please excuse me for not being precise right now...) is minimal, and he's living a full and pretty joyful life right now.
If it comes to punch-up between ribavirin and interferon and some intangible evil wanker of a deity - I'll salute the scientist any second of the year.
Spag hoops - if I should ever meet you, which is, fortunately for you, pretty unlikely, I'd suggest you run for cover.
Yeah, but science has the track record when it comes to saving lives, making lives better, and stuff you people attribute to miracles on a daily basis.
Not exactly. For one thing, we have the information and sources necessary to research all the evidence, if we have the time to learn the science. For another, other scientists who do understand the matter will be looking into it as well. Also, scientists who fabricate evidence get ridiculed and put out of business, unlike religious books which continue to be held as truth despite numerous contradictions and errors.
Because I'm reading your drivel on a machine that combines a very large number of scientific disciplines; and, that, 50 years ago would have been considered the most ludicrous science fiction. 600 years ago we were taking our first long-distance looks into space with the telescope. Today our world is surrounded by satellites that use the operating principles of that telescope and use them to gaze to the very edge of our galaxy and beyond.
60 years ago deaf was deaf. Today we can implant a little machine in your skull that can bring back your hearing. We have grown beating heart tissue from undifferentiated stem cells. We can restore lost sight in some cases with corneal transplants and the like. A few months ago science regrew part of a missing finger.
Science has a pretty good track record.
THERE'S your problem. "Believe' when used about scientific matters does not mean the same as it does to religious nutters. It comes closer to 'judge to be true on the basis of evidence', not 'be irrationally convinced despite any and all counter evidence'.
The average person, and EVERY person, should not 'Believe' Science, religion or ANYTHING in the religious sense.
I have faith that my computer will process information properly.
With microsoft, that is a significant statement of faith.
Science is responsible for the computer you used to post that message, and the one that hosts that message board.
Indeed, without science we'd still be living in caves.
Science requires proof, faith does not.
How can the average person believe in what fundamentalism says or has proven? You have no knowledge if what fundamentalists say is true or not, you just naturally believe them because it's fundamentalism. Same goes with believing God. You can't prove that he/she/it is real, you simply have FAITH in your belief.
When you can bring god into the lab and have him recreate the world, give me a call. Then, and only then, can you say that I use faith to explain my ideas
Stop using computers.
Idiot.

(From a thread in 4chan's /b/, in 2007):
'I love it when godfags try to use science to disprove someones opinion that there is no god. Listen godfags, one of the things you fail to realize is that science has a built in system to keep it in check. It's called the scientific method. I'll cut to the chase. What you quoted are "theories" they do require that we test them. Upon testing you can say if it's been proven or not. Religion on the other hand does not. It's has "dogma" which means "STFU don't question anything get back in line you fucking noob". So as you can see that does not allow for one to seek out truth now does it? Why not try to hold your same level of requirement of proof that you put science to? Because it would endanger your precious belief system and put your faith at risk. And you can't have that now can you?'
"Same goes with believing God. You can't prove that he/she/it is real, you simply have FAITH in your belief."
'Faith' is nothing more than a mental handicap. The ultimate delusion.
'A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything. '
-Friedrich Nietzsche
'Faith'? I'll accept 'faith' - and what you & your ilk claim it can do, i.e. 'Prayer' - when it can prove it's existence to me.
Confused?
