BTW, why does seeking a prostitute lead to a jail sentence? I've done it more than a few times (back in my single days, I hasten to add) and I've never been locked up for it.

@Justanotheratheist: Patronizing a prostitute is a crime in every part of the US except certain counties of Nevada. In NYS, it's a class A misdemeanor (assuming the prostitute is of legal age), and can result in up to 4 months imprisonment; penalties doubtless vary by state, but that's a fairly good starting point.
A decent chunk of the feminist movement(s) wants to legalize prostitution, another decent chunk wants to adopt the Swedish approach (no penalties for prostitutes, but high penalties for pimps and johns -- the essential presumption being that prostitution is intrinsically victimizing (the fact that a substantial fraction of prostitutes are out-and-out enslaved is certainly a factor here), and so prostitutes should be treated as victims rather than offenders), and another decent chunk has no strong opinions on prostitution at all.
Of course, in the eyes of the "manosphere," this complex internal debate gets simplified to "feminists want to jail men who pay for sex because doing so is a cheaper alternative to the financial slavery of marriage."
@Tempus, Reynardine: So inadequate (but existent) rights and a high (but well below 100%) risk of violation are indistinguishable to you from total law of the jungle outside of naked chattel slavery? Western society (along with the vast majority of others) has a long history of treating women very badly, but hyperbole helps no one.
