My fiancee recently picked up a book on Norse mythology. He's a Christian and doesn't believe in any of the stuff he's reading, but should I be worried or talk to him? What does the Bible say about this?

"My fiancee recently picked up a book on Norse mythology."
Careful. He might start seeing the same techniques used in other literature he reads.
"He's a Christian and doesn't believe in any of the stuff he's reading, but should I be worried or talk to him?"
I'm afraid it's too late for him. He's Hellbound now. I suggest you save yourself while you can. I hope you didn't actually touch the book. If not there may still be hope for you.
"What does the Bible say about this?"
Not a damned thing. Goat herders aren't known for their knowledge of Norse mythology in general and particularly Bronze Age goat herders. Besides, it's not a good idea to point fingers at other's mythology when you're trying to pass your own off as Truth.
Illuminatalie:
"Thou shalt cast out the Vikings from the temple
And slaughter the redbeards, wherever you shall find them
And spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam lovely spam"

(pissing self laughing) Oh, if that doesn't deserve at least one perfectly pristine and shockingly shiny internet, nowt does!
BOW TO THOR.
We need a new award here. Or fallacy. That phrase is just to good.
Also, Illuminatalie wins two internets.
'And lo, God said unto Jacob, ''Thou shalt cover thine ears with thine ears and say, '''lalalalalalalala! I can't hear you! alalalalalalaalalalal!''''''
So that's what the Bible says about that and
Follow and obey your 'fiancee', he has found the one true religion.... ALL HAIL ODIN THE WISE
Either that or beat him severely about the head with your bible until you see red holy juices run from his ears, this is demon juice leaving his system.
My boyfriend just picked up a book of Bronze Age fairytales.
He's an athiest and doesn't believe in any of the ridiculous, contradictory stories, but should I be worried or talk to him?
What does Richard Dawkins have to say about this?
Yeah, before you know it he'll trade in his cross for a thors-hammer.
From fundie to Asatru.
I'd love to see Proverbs31Woman have a fit over that.
Nothing. More than 2/3 of the Jewish population at the time couldn't read and write and the few who could were just science illiterate priests who were not interested in anything beyond their religion. Now, jokes aside(however, this picture is fairly accurate), if a person's faith is so weak that reading other people's faith makes it stumble, it speaks a lot about the validity of their faith. Just a few real examples:
a)when Julian the Apostate forbade those who educated to teach materials whose content didn't agree with one's personal opinion, some Christian rejoiced, for being forbidden to use "sinful and heretic material". The big majority, however, was upset. Go figure why.
b)I have already seen that many priests and mainstream reverends have a copy of the Quran and one of the subjects they have to study is philosophy, yes, the whole history of philosophy revisited.
Have they turned atheist or Muslims or whatever?. It may mean something.
If i recall correctly, Odin carries a hammer 'and' nailed (speared) himself to a tree, then he fought off a bunch of ghouls to return to the living world after having found great wisdom (that life is good, i guess).
Christ bled from every pore (emo bastard), and lacked the power to nail hmself to his cross. After 3 days of being dead, he just arbitrarily wakes up and ascends to skydaddy.
I think Odin is a cooler god to worship, if you have to have one.
Because an empty mind is a loyal mind, he shouldn't read this nor any other book.
Neither should you, precious.
Yeah, you should be worried. He is lost to you forever now. You should be fine, as long as you did not actually touch the book that he was reading. The demons bound within only requires you to touch the cover made from human skin leather to possess you.
Oh, and you are an idiot. Worry about that as well.

Argh, just sprayed my pc with tea, hope it drip dries.
Spam spam spam spam. Lovely spam! Wonderful spam! Spam spa-a-a-a-a-am spam spa-a-a-a-a-am spam. Lovely spam! Lovely spam! Lovely spam! Lovely spam! Lovely spam! Spam spam spam spam!
Well, since your Jesus got nailed to a tree, and Odin nailed HIMSELF to a tree, I think we can see who the cooler god is.
If you'll excuse me, I'm going to pillage some Valkyries.
You're too late. Pretty soon he'll be sipping latte, buying a Volvo and slipping into that great Northeast Liberal Conspiracy that's destroying America as we know it. One guy I know was a card-carrying NRA member until he read Norse mythology. Next thing, he gave up Budweiser, started sniffing his Chardonnay before drinking it, and voting Democrat !
In this corner.... weighing in at 90 pounds, son of a carpenter, a virgin and a deity, armed with glib tongue and stigmata, JESUS EL SAVIOURRRRR CHRIST!
And in this corner, a one-eyed psychopath armed with a spear that never misses, who nailed himself to a tree; in his spare time likes to kill Jotun Giants, tend to his omniscient pet ravens and ride his eight-legged monster horse: ODIN THE WISE!
Hmm ... smart money's on ol' one-eye, methinks.
"What does the Bible say about this?"
Oh, just the usual rubbish I imagine. A rambling passage on how he deserves to be put to death for turning away from something something blah blah blah, and then a few pages later, a bit on forgivness and tolerence. Take your pick.
"What does the Bible say about this?"
"If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, "Let us go and worship other gods" (gods that neither you nor your fathers have known, gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), do not yield to him or listen to him. Show him no pity. Do not spare him or shield him. You must certainly put him to death. Your hand must be the first in putting him to death, and then the hands of all the people."
-- Deuteronomy 13:6-9
Too bad. Guess you'll have to stone your fiancee to death.
heaven - sitting round singing praises
Valhala - having fun all day, carousing all night, booze, food, valkyries - what straight red-blooded male could resile from such an opportunity :))
One of the responses for this was: "If he is strong in his faith, then maybe it's good that he's reading it. I know the Nazi's used a lot of this in their beliefs....I think it is wise for Christians to know what else is out there and know how to counter it.
I played a lot of sports and it's always good to scout the opposing team. You need to know their strengths and weaknesses."
Hihhihih, The Norse Mythology, it's Out There. I Want To Believe.
AND: "The Norse Mythology twists scripture (not always a "fable") and speaks of a group of peoples who escaped the Gen. flood on a boat, and these people were of the god Odin, a norse god.
Get him into true scripture and have some laughs at the comical norse tomten/trolls and drawings."
Ok, I might be drunk but this just CRACKS ME UP!
"Oh no, what do I do!? My boyfriend is reading something other that the babble, and I'm afraid that will send him to hell! How dare he read something other than the babble?!"
Fixed. Real meaning brought out to you by "Fundy to English translator 2000x. When you just can't read that fundy babble, we'll translate it like they do the babble!"
It's waay to late P31W, by now your friend has built a shrine to Odin, is saying prayers every day to Thor, and has called on Loki to curse his foes, and bring bad luck upon them.
I am very sorry for your loss.
LOL
ROFLMAO
"My fiancee recently picked up a book on Norse mythology. He's a Christian and doesn't believe in any of the stuff he's reading"
My best friend is a Christian. Like me, one of his favourite manga is "Ah! My Goddess", which borrows heavily from Norse mythology. He's also read the Norse Eddas, and has a keen interest in anything related to such; from the Sagas right up to the recent Kenneth Branagh film adaptation of Marvel's "The Mighty Thor".
Am I worried or talk to him (except about such, re. my own interest in the subject)?
"What does the Bible say about this?"
Oh, I dunno. Last time I read the Bible, it didn't say 'Thou shalt not read a manga which mentioned how God fucked the 'Daimakaicho' or Leader of Hell Hild':
image
'And the Goddess/Demon hybrid Urd came as a result of their union.'
Was it a Thor comic, Tales of Odin or something else.? I would not worry, because after the great battle at the end of time it all happens again.
The Bible says anyone worshipping another God gets smitten.
A close reading of the Bible leads me to the conclusion that you should Blow him, immediately, and often. In fact, you should make that the core purpose of your life and should learn to resent anything that prevents you from wrapping your lips around his throbbing shaft.
According to the Bible, the Norse gods are actually real, but they are demons in the power of Satan or something. Or at least that's what the Catholic Church of the early middle ages thought of the Norse religion and all other European Heathen faiths.
On the other hand:
Moon Day
Tyr's Day
Odin's Day
Thor's Day
Frigg's Day
[Saturn's Day, but fuck that Italian bastard]
Sun Day
Shit, man, looks like the Norse gods win.
Yes, talk to him! Maybe, you can still save him from a great, life-ruining mistake! Make him realise that his would-be wife is a paranoid loony before it is too late!
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
