“Interestingly, evolutionary atheists find it difficult to deal with the fact that an EVENT either occurred or did not occur. For example, Jesus walking on water. It either 1) occurred 2) did not occur”
What’s difficult about that? Either it’s a historical fact or it is not?
“If it did not occur, then gospel writers either 1) lied 2) hallucinated
However a difficulty with 2) is that mass hallucinations not possible. So this leaves you with option 1) i.e. gospel writers lied.”
What makes you think that ‘mass’ hallucination is the only possibility? Maybe the author hallucinated it AND hallucinated that many people were present?
OR hallucinated about the miracle and LIED about witnesses?
But actually, the gospels were written more than two generations after the events, so it’s unlikely the authors even COULD have been eyewitnesses.
So, either the gospel writers lied, or were lied to, or accepted stories who were sourced by confused people several telling further back.
“The other option is that the walking on water did occur. I believe this.”
Weird how you manage to trim away all the options that don’t lead to what you already believe.
“There is no scope for evolution from nothing here.”
There’s no such thing as evolution from nothing, true. The theory requires life to exist before anything can evolve, so it’s a meaningless claim. Or, not meaningless, just totally ignorant of what the fucking theory actually says.
“ Clear logical reasoning shows these as the possibilities.”
No, sweetie. Rather limited reasoning brings you back to your initial premise.
And you ignore quite a bit of the science that’s helped us determine that none of the gospels are from eyewitnesses.
“In another thread, one guy denied Jesus ever existed.”
Well, there’s no evidence FOR him, other than a book of tall tales.
And, really, he’s surrounded by cardboard cutouts.
Seriously. EVERY miracle, Jesus says, “I’m going to do something unlikely.”
And all the apostles say, “No way, Big J, that’s impossible!”
And Jesus says, “Way.”
And they all say, “NO WAY!”
And finally he does it, and they proclaim that the miracle proves he’s the messiah
And at the NEXT town, Jesus says, “I’m going to do something unlikely.”
And everyone who believed he could do the impossible in the LAST town says, “No WAY!”
“That is a convenient way out.”
Well, the absence of evidence IS what we would expect in the case of absence.
“But that still implies gospel writers lied.”
Or were lied to. Don’t forget lied to.
“And historical evidence destroys the claim Jesus never existed- I wonder what other historical figures that poster denies, and why?”
What historical evidence that’s not from an anonymous source OR from someone with a vested interest in Jesus being real?
I mean, do you have the receipt from him being issued a crucifix?
