There is biblical support for this idea of bearing false witness as long as one is trying to advance the cause of God. In Romans 3:7 KJV Paul contends "For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner?" Of course, one might wonder how a lie advances the truth, but that's only a problem for those who think.
