[Response to an article about Rick Warren's Saddleback Church teaching that domestic violence is no reason for divorce.]
That this article received so many comments with such a variety of views is evidence of the deep depth of sin in our society on this issue. The Bible is clear on the subject, but Biblical views of divorce are largely ignored in favor of the putrid values of modern society, "common sense" which is by definition very common and ungodly, political correctness, and selfish greed. What God gave us for our benefit, marriage, we have used to hurt ourselves and others by not abiding by the Biblical mandate, and as a society, not meaning what we say when we say "until death do us part."

...not meaning what we say when we say "until death do us part."
Which does NOT mean "Until I beat the bitch to death for not getting my sandwich right!" When a person starts abusing his or her spouse, the person you married is dead, in my eyes. You do not know this person, so run. Like. Hell
Biblical values are OK if you're a Christian fundamentalist. If your not, they stink. So, the challenge for you is to convert everybody to Christian fundamentalism. However, it will be difficult for you because:-
There is no god and it definitely does not exist.
The bible contains errors and is inconsistent.
There is no heaven and there is no hell.
There are no angels, demons and devils or satan.
The bible is immoral and unethical.
The bible is no use as a guide to anything.
The bible is a XXX tome.
Religions are vast edifices of monstrous evil.
Prayers and praying are completely ineffectual.
Religions contain massive reserves of stupidity.
Religions are huge repositories of cant and dogma.
Religion and hypocrisy are forever hopelessly entwined.
Fundamental Christianity is not a lover of humanity and is inhumane.
Christian fundamentalists display a remarkable degree of hatred and bigotry that they are unconcerned about trying to hide.
Christian fundamentalists have no tolerance of others outside of their cults.
Christian fundamentalists have neither liking, nor, indeed, a penchant, for logic, common-sense or factual evidence.
The bible promotes misogyny.

Love ya, Pule.
So, Tom, in other words, you beat the shit out of your wife every night, and think that she can't do anything about it? I'm hoping you wake up one morning and are missing your nuts.
"Til death do us part" isn't what's important in domestic violence cases. What's important is the failure of a souses vow to "love, comfort, honor and keep for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and health, and forsaking all others, be faithful, for as long as you both shall live". If you fail those things, the marriage is no good. When you cross the line and resort to physical abuse, that should be the end of it. Because that person has epicly failed to uphold the vows they took in front of your asshole god.
Those "Biblical views" of marriage were written by men who regarded women as property to be bought, sold, and beaten at their pleasure....And it's the abuser whose behavior is unbiblical in the fist place, not the victim who seeks divorce. The Bible commands men to love their wives "as Christ loves the Church". Nothing in there about kicking them around.
Common sense is actualy an intuitive form of probability, which is math. It has nothing to do with religion.
Anyway, thank you for further showing how Christianity is an anti-woman faith. You make fundamentalist Muslims seem like secular humanists.
Right, he hits you because he loves you, and he puts you in the hospital with broken bones and deep tissue bruises because he loves you, and he fucking BEATS YOU TO DEATH because he loves you... and it's all Biblical, because if you *dare* to divorce his pathetic, insecure ass, you're SINNING! (And, you know, having self-esteem, and being in control of your body and life [as a woman] is just fucking SATANIC, rite?)
Confused?
