The orbit of the moon decays a certain amount every day. In other words, every day, the moon gets just a tiny bit closer to the earth. As the moon gets closer to the earth, the high tides get a tiny bit higher. This is a measured fact. Now, Since the creation is only seven to ten thousand years old, this is not a big problem. Average high tides have only changed a few inches.
HOWEVER, if the fairy-tale of 'billions and billions of years ago' were true, the moon would be so close to the earth that it would cause extremely high tides. In fact, tides would be so high that the entire surface of the earth would be flooded by the tides twice a day.

Bro Randy. 'Nuff said...
Ah, good old Bro. Randy.
Jesus christ, this guy can't even get his own bullshit straight. First he's trying to claim that the moon is getting closer, then he claims that it was once extremely close, implying that it's moving further away. Make up your mind already, you retard.
1) The moon is getting FARTHER from Earth. We're measuring it daily, using lasers and the mirrors left behind during the Apollo missions. You can verify this yourself easily.
2) We still aren't exactly sure about the history of the Moon farther back than 4 billion years, but we do know that the moon used to be ridiculously close to Earth, which had some serious and often cataclysmic geologic and meteorological effects on Earth.
EDIT: Also, the fallacious logic at the end made me laugh.
wow, it's been a while since we've had any stupid from the Bro Randy font of stupidity.
The moon is drifting AWAY from us,.
The very next post:
thanks for sharing
I love to learn things like these
This is the problem with idiot fundies that spew disinformation and lies, they can easily infect the minds of young and impressionable people.
News flash, Einstein, the moon is moving AWAY from the planet.
Prime example of Ignorance through Hoom Skoolin'.
"every day, the moon gets just a tiny bit closer to the earth."
whut.
The moon is moving AWAY from the Earth, r-tard.
Everyone knows this.
Well, since I've left christianity, I'm trying to decide what to go to college to study, and Astrophysics, I must say, interests me greatly. So I've been doing some independent study of it online. But all one needs to have to understand that not only is his supposed 'science' faulty, his logic fails on an epic level, is an age factor of '3'. At one moment the moon is moving away from us (to prove his point), and the next moment, it's moving closer to us (to prove his point). His point has been proven. He's a pathetic excuse of human waste.
@Mister Spak
No, it's like the rings of Saturn, it doesn't matter if they were formed yesterday, a year ago, or a century ago. Whatever distance the Moon is from the Earth today (and what it is doing) is irrelevant to where the Moon was originally, because the Moon could have entered our orbit from any distance, speed, or at any time, and it still wouldn't change what is happening to the Moon today.
Also, ImaSaved1, has it backwards, the Moon is moving AWAY form the Earth.

Hey, Randy, where you been, you chubby little jokester? I hear that even Hovind winced when he read this.
/me shakes head sadly
Come on. I'd almost completely forgot about this ephebophile freak. Did you have to remind us?
Not to mention his understanding of orbital dynamics is about as good as his grasp of any other aspect of science...
Hang on...so you're saying that, because you can supposedly work out that the moon was at a certain point seven to ten thousand years ago, you can then say that if it had started at that point 'billions and billions' of years ago, it would now be much closer.
I hope your stupidity hurts you as much as it hurts me.
The moon gets a bit closer to us every day, so millions of years ago , it would have been closer still...
If this doesn't convince at least one person on T4C that Randy's full of it then I think we may have to accept that everyone there is, by any rational criteria, in a persistent vegetative state.
Starts by getting it backward, loses track of self and then, miraculously, gets it so wrong that it is actually right. Billions of years ago there were, indeed, very very big tides.
"...tides would be so high that the entire surface of the earth would be flooded..."
No. I repeat, noooooooooo. Tides are just water moving around, and when it's high tide here (and the opposite side), it's low tide at the two "sides". You can't flood "everything" without magically making MORE water, then magically making it vanish, twice a day. I know, you believe in magic, but...
Confused?
