I hate it when people classify Christianity as a religion. Just because Christianity seems to fit the dictionary definition of religion doesn't make it a religion. It's the one true path to Heaven and it's a relationship with the Lord. Religion is a fraud that will lead you straight to Hell if you don't repent of your sins and accept Jesus as your Savior.

Why? Why do they do this?
It makes as little sense as saying that democratic socialism is not politics, or that pasta is not food. Utterly ridiculous.
Is it because we nonbelievers keep pointing out that there's no more evidence for Christianity than for other religions?

...My head hurts.
Dictionaries are the work of the devil.
Religion n. A fraud. An invented fable based on ancient legends and embellished over centuries in a pretence that it is 'truth'. A delusion. An unfounded idiocy. A tax dodge.

What's that quacking thing, swimming in the water with a bill and webbed feet over there?
JESUS CHRIST IT'S A LION! GET BACK IN THE CAR!
If it looks like duck, and it walks like a duck, and it sounds like a duck...
... it's gotta be a goose.
I think what Abby is trying to get at, in her convoluted way, is that serving the sky fairy is not about rituals and bureaucracy - see the parable of the Pharisees - but about being good and adhering to the word, and accepting Jesus.
Unfortunately, adhering to the word means following a religion, directly in contradiction of everything, which is not an unusual occurrence in the wholly babble.
teh lojik...
ur doin it rong
Bend over mate. I'll insert an object that just seems to fit the "dictionary definition" of a fence post up your arse. Rest assured, it's not actually a fence post. Just looks like one and feels like one.
And don't think of it as a fence post up your arse, think of it as a personal relationship with a large wooden object!
Just because Christianity seems to fit the dictionary definition of religion doesn't make it a religion.
Sure it does, unless you're speaking your own made-up language where you redefine words any way you like.
Riiight, because it's not like every single other religion thinks the exact same thing about itself, jackass.
Christianity = religion. Not a relationship with Jesus, not the one true path to salvation, it's a RELIGION.
I hate it when people classify Christianity as a religion. Just because Christianity seems to fit the dictionary definition of religion doesn't make it a religion.
Fair enough, I will not comment on such stupidity. Thank God I haven't come across a fundie who believes that Christianity is science.
It's the one true path to Heaven and it's a relationship with the Lord.
Except the only true path to God is to believe Muhammed was the last prophet sent by God, except the only true path to God is to live your life collecting good Karma, except the only true path to God is to accept the Flying Sphagetti Monster, except...
"Just because Christianity seems to fit the dictionary definition of religion doesn't make it a religion."
My friend, I think you're in need of a reality check.
"I hate it when people classify ISLAM as a religion. Just because ISLAM seems to fit the dictionary definition of religion doesn't make it a religion. It's the one true path to Heaven and it's a relationship with ALLAH. Religion is a fraud that will lead you straight to Hell if you don't repent of your sins and accept ALLAH as your Savior."
See; it works with other religions too!
Tax the FUCK out of the churches! No more church-related donations as tax deductions for you either, Abby.
If governments did that, would you still deny that Cross-tianity is a religion?
Religions are able to gain tax exemption status. Is the church you go to on Sundays paying tax? No? Well there's your answer, then.
(actually, the Church of Satanism doesn't pay taxes, but that's up for debate. Whether I agree with their ideas or not, they do state that churches should not be permitted tax-exemption status, and I entirely agree with that)
"It's the one true path to Heaven and it's a relationship with the Lord."
Yes...and guess how you "know" this to be the case. Hint: religious teachings. If this sentiment makes Christianity not a religion, than there are no religions: just a bunch of relationships with imaginary forces and entities.
Many Born Again Christians try to frame Christianity in a more esoteric, for lack of a better word, way. They want to focus on The Sinner's Prayer and being born again. They feel that a general definition for religion is a spiritual dogma based on works. Operative word, "works".
Of Course there are morals and rules to follow, but Christians follow because they want to, all based on an honors system.
After excepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour, the evangelist or pastor lays down some pretenses like baptism (for church membership, never salvation) and attending the correct [insert theological and sectarian pretenses here] church.
They are just trying to frame Christianity like a self-help book, or a philosophy to follow and/or study like Zen, trying to wrap it up, like it was a non-fiction trade paperback.
The religion Christianity is not a religion. Religions that are not the religion Christianity are religions, but not the religion Christianity. The rose flower is not a flower, but all flowers that are not rose flowers are flowers.
Oh dear! My head hurts!
I understand the general, incorrect, dishonest direction they are going with this, but it is so profoundly nonsensical. No matter how hard you want to make Christianity special, you still ought to endeavor to find an honest way to do it. Lies just emphasize how hard it is to find factual support.
Language has meaning. Period.
I hate it when people classify Fluffy as a cat. Just because Fluffy seems to fit the dictionary definition of a cat doesn't make her a cat. Cats are not man's best friend, and Fluffy is mine. She has four legs and a tail. Cats have sharp teeth and claws and they'll hiss at you if you corner them.
You hate it when people classify a religion as religion. And yes, Christianity is a religion because it fit the dictionary definition of religion. That is what a dictionary definition is for.
Sure, religion is fraud, they were all (including Christianity) invented by men in other to control the masses and/or enrich themselves.

it's a relationship with the Lord
If that's the attitude of you right-wing Fundamental ist Christains, then there's the little matter of the nearly $17 quadrillion in back-taxes owed since 1776.
And for you & all your fundie ilk who thinks that yours isn't a religion, give the IRS just one good reason why they shouldn't come a-calling: asking for those untold trillions you owe.
The Man effectively owns God.
Islam & $cientolgy have tax exemption status as religions in the US.
Now what was that again, Ab...?!
@dpareja
Right, so your church will start paying taxes now?
And even if the IRS were ultra-generous and discounted said back-taxes since 1776: and started from now , it would still result in fundie Christainity having to pay $70 billion a year.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
