My daughter, who is 6, came home from school yesterday with a quarterly newsletter. As I was reading it I took notice that they are having a school wide day on April 24 called Rainbow Day. This shook me up a bit because I have noticed how homosexuality is being "supported" by schools across the country.
I did a search to find out if possibly this was a gay pride day or month or maybe I was just being paranoid. Well, I did find that when I put in the search terms April 24 gay pride, several websites came up showing that the nearest city to us (15 min away) has that whole week dedicated to black gay pride. This concerned me knowing that the town I am from likes to follow what this city does.
So, I take my daughter to school today and I asked her teacher what this Rainbow Day was and what my daughter was to be doing that day. Strangely the teacher acted like she didn't have a clue what this day was. Then she goes into the office (taking about 10 min) and comes out with 2 other teachers and all three are stammering on what to tell me.
Then they end up coming up with this grand answer of "Well, all the students are to wear brightly colored clothing that day and the closer to being a rainbow the better. But, even better, if the students could wear actual rainbows proudly that would work also.
Ok, am I paranoid or am I smelling a cover up to this being a gay pride or gay supportive day? I live in a small town that everything is hush hush and anything out of the ordinary is either covered up or brushed off.
I'm not trying to be a crazy parent here but I don't want my daughter participating in something that maybe supporting homosexuality. And believe me, I have nothing against rainbows. I think they are one of the most beautiful things that G-d has created.

I can just imagine how the meeting with the teacher went:
kelly: "Just what do you think you're doing?!"
Teacher: (looks around) "I, um, I ask the morning class to help me clean up after the school day. Is there a problem...?"
kelly: "Not that, you secular fundamentalist! I meant on the 24th!"
Teacher: "Thursday? You mean gym day? If you have a problem with dodgeball, you'll have to take it up with Ms Schaeffer, the head P.E. teacher."
kelly: "NO! I mean the rainbows! The rainbows, you godless liberal witch! The raaaaaaaiiiiinbooooooowwwwwws!"
Teacher: "Uh, let me ask the other kindergarten teachers. I'll be right back..." (backs away slowly)
"Ok, am I paranoid or am I smelling a cover up to this being a gay pride or gay supportive day?"
No I think you're spot on. All gay pride days happen in secret, and the organisers try to keep a few people from finding out as possible. In fact I suspect the whole point was to keep your daughter in the dark so she wouldn't know what she was supporting. It's happened to me before; I once stood in a supermarket queue for three hours thinking I was going to get a free promotional sachet of soy sauce- turns out the whole thing was a ploy to get people standing in the vicinity of a gay pride event. My presence made the gathering large enough to recruit three lesbians, eight bisexuals, and infect a passing traffic warden with gender dysphoria. The regret is a burden on my shoulders every day.
Not really. There is a gay holiday around that time -- 25 April is the DOS. I'm organizing it at my college, and it is...upsetting a few people.
But no, she's not paranoid.
After reading the thread, this just gets even funnier. All I can say is, if you have a group of paranoid crazies who think that
(a) there's a vast atheist conspiracy among biologists to push evolution in order to destroy God,
(b) there's a vast Communist conspiracy among climatologists to push global warming in order to destroy American industry,
(c) there's a vast homosexual conspiracy among public schools to indoctrinate children into the gay agenda,
(d) and there's an epic battle between Satan and the forces of evil and Jesus and the forces of good over what children's cartoons your family sees,
you really can't expect a good diagnosis as to whether you're paranoid or not.
Yup, you got it. Your school is forcing six year old kids to support black gay pride without your consent.
At least you were able to catch them at it and expose the commie-liberal-nazi plot. Good thing you're so smart, huh?
Kyle: Hey Stan, did you see that rainbow this morning?
Stan: Yeah, it was huge.
Cartman: Huh! I hate those things.
Kyle: Nobody hates rainbows.
Stan: Yeah, what's there to hate about rainbows?
Cartman: Well, you know you'll just be sitting there minding your own business and they'll come marching in and crawl up your leg and start biting the inside of your ass and you'll be like - Hey! Get out of my ass you stupid rainbows!
"Then she goes into the office (taking about 10 min) and comes out with 2 other teachers and all three are stammering on what to tell me. "
People do that a lot when a crazed fundie starts after them. You never know when they'll have a bomb belt with them.
I imagine this was the conversation in the office:
Teacher1: It's that wingnut again.
Teacher2: Oh, Mr. Kelly? Oy, what does he want?
Teacher1: He wants to know what rainbow day is all about.
Teacher2: What, does he think we're trying to make the kids gay?
Teacher3: Probably. Remember the fit he had over Multi-cultural day? He thought we were trying to make everyone Muslim.
Teacher1: I don't want to give him any answer at all. He was already foaming at the mouth and shaking.
Teacher3: Oooh, not that "shaking with anger" shake!
Teacher2: Just tell him it's to make a rainbow.
Teacher1: He's paranoid, Jeanne, he won't believe that...
Teacher2: You know, he ought to just pull his daughter out of school if he has such a problem with it...
Can you IMAGINE what hell it's like to be this child's teacher and to put up with this insane bitch of a mother?
Can you even GRASP the looniness??
These teachers deserve combat pay and sainthood.
Sometimes a rainbow is just a rainbow.
Unless it is tied around an erect penis. In that case, you may have a point.
I did a quick search on Google and the best I could come up with was http://homeschooling.about.com/cs/unitssubjhol/a/fundaysapr.htm
So... Ok, am I paranoid or am I smelling a cover up to this being a gay pride or gay supportive day? I live in a small town that everything is hush hush and anything out of the ordinary is either covered up or brushed off.
I would say, "Yes, you are paranoid." Seek some help before you warp your childrens poor fragile little minds.
Yes, you are being paranoid.
A rainbow is a natural occurrence. I happens when sunlight reflects off water in the air.
If you have a problem with that, take it up with your god.
The Day of Silence is coming up. I'm glad the schools are starting to support it. They aren't teaching your daughter to love gay people. They're teaching her to accept the fact that they're human, and are deserving of basic human rights. You know. Like what they do with black rights, and women's rights.
Ok, am I paranoid or am I smelling a cover up to this being a gay pride or gay supportive day?
No, she's smelling teachers who are worried that they've got some God-bothering, homophobic trouble-maker on their hands and need to answer her carefully so she doesn't come back with a shotgun or a lawsuit that lands the whole town on the Colbert Report.
Just the fact that teachers have to put up with idiots like you proves that they're severely underpaid.
Seriously, how the fuck they deal with parents is beyond me.
The very fact you feel the need to clarify you "have nothing against rainbows" makes you a whack-job....
If you're not trying to be a crazy parent, I can only conclude you have a spectacular natural ability.
Paranoid, OF COURSE!, If you're able to confuse a class activity with gay support, you're even more stupid than you think.
About five years ago when my son was in kindergarten we had a crazy like this. After the first couple of weeks while the teachers were getting the students adjusted to being in school (for some its their first time) and getting them use to the daily routines the teacher started a unit on learning the colors, by having a color of the day and asked the parents if possible to dress the kids in that color for the day (but there was no penalty if they did not have that color and had extra t-shirts in class if they didn’t have that color at home and didn’t want to feel left out) I thought this was a cute idea. One parent freak out, she sent an e-mail to all the parents who had put their e-mail addy on the class signup sheet saying this was supporting the gay agenda, how having boys wear pink on pink day was feminizing and so forth!!! Needless to say that by the end of the month she had pull her son out of the school. What happened to them after that I don’t know, but I’ve always felt bad for that kid.
Well everyone knows if you follow a rainbow you'll find a circuit party at one end and Pier One Imports at the other. At least that's what I find when I follow them. Could be the meth. [SARCASM]
Yes, Kelly, you are paranoid. You must check yourself into the nearest psychiatric hospital before it's too late.
My niece's preschool had a Rainbow Day two months ago.
It had nothing to do with homosexuality. THEY WERE TEACHING THE KIDS THE COLORS! You know, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet?
Take off the tinfoil hat, kelly.
"I wonder if some people see the old "Rainbow Brite" cartoons and mistake them for gay propaganda. "
Not only that, but "bright" is an cutesy name for an atheist devil worshipper! We must be vigilant against the threat from these evil rainbow brites!!!!!11![/fundie]
If the teachers really were stammering, it might have been because they knew this whack-job was a bigot.
'God damnit. What do we say to the fucking bitch just to make her go away?'
Yeah. Just go on hating anything that has to do with them queers and make your daughter as prejudice as you are. That's good parenting.
Y'know, being a gay black man, I really have to say that (and I know this has next to nothing to do with the actual post) really, ANYTHING that would benefit gay equality in the black community would be a major plus.
In my experience, gay people tend to be far, FAR more homophobic than white guys, in general. I think a lot of black men get far too hung up on proving their 'machismo' in all different manner of ways, this being just one of them, no doubt due to the cultural baggage caused by the emasculation of the slave trade.
I mean, we all know that black-on-black violence is a real problem. But homophobia in the black community is just as real and dangerous, often lethal to many young black gay men. We do NOT need religious wingnuts like Harry Jackson condemning homosexuality - we NEED a real 'black gay' movement. Before it's too late.
Anyway, that's my rant over ;)
I hate to bring a bit of sense to this poor dumb paranoid fundie, but April 24, 1800 is the day of the founding of the Library of Congress, and there is a program called "Reading Rainbow" in many school libraries.

Man alive...you are FSTDT gold-mine in of yourself, aren't you? The ignorance and intolerance, with a dash or two of vulgarity...I'd almost pity such a blatant troll under most circumstances, but I'll take exception with you, just because of your username...
Confused?
