There sure is enough happening in Iran and Russia! Hal Lindsey was on this subject of the EMP from the start. They say if one were exploded, it would take the U.S. or parts of the U.S. back to the early 1800's. Imagine, in a society that gets impatient with a 15 minute blackout, what that would be like. Sometimes I think it would be enjoyable, no annoying cell phones etc., slower pace of life that’s for sure. But I sure would miss the folks on this board! We would surely find out what were made of that’s for sure! No vehicles running- (it would fry the computer chips), or airplanes. Gee's the list goes on. Horses and bikes would be highly valuable. I always pick up extra packets of vegetable seeds, just in case I may have to plant a vegy garden. We should not be so naive as to think this couldn’t happen. As Bibi Netanyahu states, the enemies of Israel refer to the Israel as the "little satan", and the U.S. as the "big satan". If they want to wipe Israel "little satan" off the map, how much more do they want to take out "big satan" the U.S.

Weeeell... paranoid as she is, I do actually kinda respect people who prepare for disaster, for the simple reason that I know people who are disaster victims, refugees, etc. One should[/] be a wee bit paranoid - buy a fireproof safe and fill it with some money, spare clothing, your passports and other important documents, photographies, and other stuff you don't want to lose. You should consider having a "cache" of money or whatever that you don't touch in case your life is turned upside down.
But to prepare for an EMP that knocks everything in your whole country out... that... is a bit over the top.
Riiiiight, because it's not like the US has plenty of allies, other than Israel.
The chances of a terrorist being able to smuggle a device that was powerful enough to create the devastating EMP you're yapping about into the US are very, very low... and as far as another country officially declaring war on the US goes, NO country is going to risk making the first move -- the US has stockpiled enough nukes to out-power every single country on the planet, put together. There's a reason why all attempts at terrorism in the US are generally small-scale.

Yeah, back to the 1800s. Wouldn't that be great? No laser surgeries, no electric lighting to help find mine disaster victims, no pesky respirators keeping those weak folks alive, no emergency vehicles faster than a horse & buggy. Ah, those were the good ol' days.
Because, of course, the knowledge of how to make all that stuff would disappear, too.
I'd bet on it taking less than 25 years after a full EMP strike to regain our current level of technology. Most of the useful stuff would take even less time than that. Airplanes and automobiles would probably take a year, all other things being equal.
Hal Lindsey is your movement's definition of a false prophet. He's a money whore and not much else.

Although it's a myth that the original Internet (Arpanet) was designed to survive a nuclear attack, it has probably become a reality by accident due to its decentralized structure.
As tempting as it is to imagine a slower world with no cell-phones, cars or planes, I doubt many would really want to return to the 1200's. The Wall Street millionaires would be the ones with the 30,000 acre farms and the RR crowd would be the ones working 80 hour weeks for a penny a day and all the cabbage they could eat.
You'd actually be spending most your day on simple survival. Try planting you garden, off season, while hungry and watering from the closest river. Nutjob
Besides most motors before the 90's have no computers and most on board stuff is only stalled during the wave. It's not like one event would close a whole country down either

From my understanding, EMP doesn't work that way. We'd have a few seconds, or minutes (maybe) of no power. Then the power should come back. The only real damage I could think of would be to telephone lines (maybe). EMP doesn't come into your house and destroy electronics.
EMP would more or less actually take things back to the 1930s. It would fry microchips and most transitors but if there is anything lying around that still used Vaccum tubes, it wouldn't affect them.
And if there is no power in the circuit when the EMP goes through, it'll be intact.
Even if it fried the ECU in my car I could have it running in less than a day. I could power my house with my generator and HHO gas.

There would be no single vomb that could take out a whole country.
There would have to be multiple multi-megaton bursts to cripple even a state.
At that point, electricity would be the least of your problems.
If you were unlucky enough to survive the pressure wave and fireball, you would most likely spend the rest of your short life puking blood and watching your skin fall off.
My only worry is that Bill Donahue, or a RR creep gets ahold of a bomb.
