For a person to believe that God does not exist when it is impossible to prove that He does not exist is irrational because it will always remain possible that God does exist. Atheism is actually the most irrational and illogical religion on the planet.

god looms large in the minds of bigots, misogynists, homophobes, hypocrites...you know the god-thing's legacy through its effects.

i had to change about 6 words to correct it. thats a little disappointing
Atheism is irrational? Illogical?

Atheism does fulfill any single one of the requirements to be a religion, by the way.
As Richard Dawkins says, most atheists are technically functionally-atheist agnostics.
In other words:
There is no evidence that God exists, so we will act as though God does not exist. If sufficient evidence should come available, then the premise and following actions will be revised.
Also: it is entirely possible to prove that God does not exist - for certain definitions of 'God'. Bible-Yahweh cannot exist, for many different reasons starting with the entire history of the universe. If you want to define God as something that cannot be proven to not exist or not, then by definition God has no measurable effect on the universe and you should act as though God does not exist.
But I suspect that dad4jesus suffers from Morton's Demon and would be selectively blind to what I have just written.
Look up the concept of "conviction to within a reasonable margin of error," then get back to us.
Oh, also look up the concept of "burden of proof" before you get back to us.
And while you're at it, look up the contradictions in the bible which prove that it cannot be taken completely literally, such as the incompatible accounts of the crucifixion in the bible then get back to us.
On second thought, don't get back to us.
Your first sentence is as valid, regardless of which deity you put in it. It's as possible that Shiva does exist, for example. Atheists, however, don't believe in any of them, and live as if none of them exists, until such time as conclusive evidence for the existence of one or more of them surfaces.
“For a person to believe that God does not exist when it is impossible to prove that He does not exist”
It’s also impossible to prove that any gods DO exist.
I don’t BELIEVE that your god doesn’t exist, more that i do not believe any of them do exist. It’s not an absolute fact, but more of a working conclusion.
"is irrational because it will always remain possible that God does exist.”
Sure. It’s possible. But until better evidence of a better argument comes along, i’m still unconvinced.
I mean, i will not claim that i do know god exists BASED on the fact that he MIGHT exist. That would be less rational.
"Atheism is actually the most irrational and illogical religion on the planet.”
Feel free to demonstrate
1) that the lack of belief in a deity is a religion
2) that not being convinced by boneheaded arguments is the irrational position
3) your logic (if mine is so illogical)
Confused?
